I continue to hear from fellow players that somehow your friend list and size of your friend list affects the performance of your meter. Can anyone verify this? Or is this just wgt urban legend?? Thanks!

i defriended 254 persons, the meter improved enough to justify my not maintaining a friends list.  will it work for everyone?  is it worth it?  for me yes.  my nickel.

I think there's some truth in it. I can't understand why WGT don't make it possible to shut it down while you are playing.

4 of the best players on WGT say......

    jakestanfill:

1/20/11 - Friend activity definitely effects performance.  For a social site this is a problem.  This could be alleviated if WGT would fix it where you wouldn’t see friends log on or off while you are in round, or even better, when you are making a swing.  I have deleted my entire list several times and do get a little relief.  Meter still has a mind of its own though and I get quite lonely.

    Priestess:

5/18/11 - I see it all the time because i have my friend list Open,And when someone goes offline or comes online or goes from green to red i see the difference in the meter,  Wgt must be aware of this because we have all noticed this happening and many players on WGT have greatly reduced their friend list, So why cant WGT say to us OK,we cant do anything about this just keep list to a minimum or,Ok we will look into it and work on completely disabling friend list during game play in future updates.

    Tiffer66:

5/18/11 - I deleted 230 friends yesterday, left with less than 30, of which there has been 1 or 2 logged in throughout the day. The result today for me has been quite astonishing. I think I have had one instance whereby the meter has stuttered, that is across 54 holes played. This last week I have had problems every day with the meter, quite a coincidence that today is problem free or in fact a result of binning the friends.

    BolloxinBruges:

8/25/10 - Friend list makes my meter significantly worse.  When I wiped my list to 0 my meter problems were cut in half or maybe even less. (so no offense if I've deleted you at some point!)

    Is that enough verification?

WGT has been better about listening to player concerns this year (fringes, last ball notification, more clearly stating CDP bonus)  maybe if we continue to complain about this one they will make the change at some point.

In regards to JC's question my last computer showed a significant improvement in meter quality w/ my friends list at 0.  The computer I'm on now handles the friend activity a lot better to the point where friend activity has little impact, but I still remove friends for the majors just in case...

There most certainly is merit in it from my experience. I deleted around 250 friends 4-6 weeks ago and my meter has been significantly better since. I still kept 30+ friends and do have occasional issues but they tend to be in the aftermath of an update.

Prior to deleting friends I had meter issues every day, now they are a rare occurence.

Thanks all! I was suspicious of everyone's claim and too lazy to delete everyone to test it.  Seems like a consensus though and I will join the ranks of a trimmed friend list...

i sucks that one of the very principals this game is built on ie; community that we have to delete friends in order to get it working properly, i dont hear much from the owners in respect of when THEIR glitches causes a lost ball etc, but then why would they when we are stupid enough to go BUY more!!!! really getting sick of this game now!!
