I ONLY play the mobile version, but some of these suggestions would be applicable to PC players as well:
1) SWING BAR: Mine has always been super stuttery - like a golfer on crack. My real golf swing has tempo, and I try to maintain that tempo from the takeaway to the finish. In WGT, the swing bar often starts out smooth, and then races at light speed through the central hitting zone, as if to trip up the player. This even happens with high cost wedges that supposedly slow the meter speed. These are your scoring clubs and in real life, are generally hit with more control and finesse...I wish WGT would allow me to get the same performance out of my virtual wedges that I do in real life. The herky-jerky swing bar is agonizing.
2) DRAW/FADE: Some hole intros suggest hitting a draw or fade; many tee shots lend themselves to shot shaping, yet the game doesn't allow the player to actually do this. This is a critical part of golf that WGT misses.
3) CAMERA ANGLES: Many camera angles at certain courses/holes make it impossible for the mobile player to hit a good shot. Often the camera is positioned on the ground below the green, looking up - leaving you with only a shot of your avatar's head instead of the ball and shot line. Other times the camera is zoomed a mile back, and your avatar is a tiny speck. Other times, you are given a vague side shot that doesn't accurately depict the wind direction/ball flight that you are going to hit. It can be like hitting shots blind folded. Kiawah is a prime example - the course seems easy for PC players, but can be very frustrating for mobile players because of the multitude of terrible camera angles we have to work with. Too bad we can't take full 360-degree control of the camera and position the view where we would like - you know, like real golf.
4) CONSISTENT RESULTS: Every time I hit my 195-yard 4 iron at full power, with mild wind, and "hit the ding" - but the ball mysteriously travels only 35 yards and lands in the brush - I feel totally ripped off. Did the game predetermine that I should be handed a triple bogey before I even teed off?
5) UPDATED EQUIPMENT: Most of the clubs in WGT are two years old or older. If we are playing PGA Tour tee distances at higher levels, you should be able to hit PGA Tour distances with your shots! Current driving distance leaders AVERAGE 320 yds, yet I can only hit that far in WGT if there is a severe tailwind and a flat or downhill fairway. Since I am on the black tees, I often wonder how this game would be to play if I could hit tour length shots on average, like the pros do. Ever hit 2 really solid shots on a long par 4 in WGT, yet still be well short of the green? Being challenged is one thing; being set up to fail is NEVER fun.
I work in the golf industry, live on a golf course, and swing real golf clubs almost daily. I don't lose my temper on the course, and have never thrown a club in real life - but WGT often has me quitting and shutting off the game in frustration, feeling ripped off. Right now I refuse to spend a penny on WGT. Improve the game, update the game, fix the game. I would gladly pay then. Stop wasting programming effort on arcade "ball effects" and other silliness. Having apparel that improves your gameplay also dumbs WGT down to GolfStar level (arcade). WGT is moving farther away from golf simulation, toward golf arcade.
