watching US Open/British Open more enjoyable thanks to WGT

  In watching both the US Open and now The British I have found it so much more enjoyable to follow having played both courses so much on WGT.

  It's like I know both golf courses so well!

  anyone else notice this?

  It is alot more enjoyable watching these tourneys knowing the courses in and out. I was up at 1 am to watch, and that is a first for me. :)

  It does change your perspective.

  You know when guys will have putts that are next to impossible.

  You also get to see how well this game is mapped.

  Live British Open coverage is now FREE on DirecTV (satellite) from 7/14 to 7/17 on Channels 701-707 in HD.

  So did i...four days of live golf on the BBC

   

  I also noticed that these guys were hitting "realistic" rounds, all around par....rather than 50's!!  : /

  it was a little discouraging watching Phil on Sunday and knowing that if he kept up that torrid pace...he still wouldn't have qualified for the free hat on WGT :(

  Yep pillsy, but we've all seen Phil collapse many times but that one was paricularly massive. 6 under after 10 holes!? And then just disintegrated on the back. Putting like I do, missing 2 and 3 footers. And what about the other guy who is writing his own book about blowing it big time in majors; Dustin what-was-I-thinking? Johnson. He was right there. Again. Only 2 back.  I guess he was trying to lay up there on #14 (was it?) and granted, the wind didn't help but it didn't keep Clarke from parring. He does seem to be sort of a hard luck case. Hope he breaks through that eventually.

  It is absolutely much better having played the courses, whether in real golf or on WGT, it makes you feel that you understand what they are going through.

  I have been lucky enough to play in real golf a number of the courses that have hosted Opens, St Andrews, Troon, Carnoustie, Turnberry and you can relate to the players.  Same at the US Open, I have played around a dozen of the US Open courses and it is great to watch with that knowledge.  WGT has made it so many of the other courses that I have not played are 'familiar' to me.
