R9 SuperTri v R9 TP

  Hi,

  I'm thinking of giving a new driver a go.  I currently have the L62 R9 and am very happy with it but, well, longer is always better as the actress said to the bishop so have had a look at the next 2 offerings from TM.

  The SuperTri offers better precision but gets less favourable reviews than the TP in the pro shop.  I guess I could rent both and try them back to back.

  Or I wait for the R11 and save myself some money.  I like the R9 a lot and if we're only looking at an extra 5 yards it hardly seems worth it. Having said that, the R11 is only another 2 yards longer although the precision is way better.  Damn you WGT pro shop!!

  Thoughts and opinions please.

  The meter will kill you with the Tri until you get used to it. It isn't one speed on the swing-it accelerates the last third,or so, unlike what you're swinging now.

  The 2nd R9 can keep up with the R11 and even though the meter is faster the swing is the same speed all the way through and easier to ding than you would think. Maybe get it at level 80 as a compromise until you get to 88.

  I like to disagree with JIm a lot and especially on this topic.  Jim was the one who talked me into the tri last year, I still use it and I wouldn't consider the level 80 r9.  Once you get used to the slick meter, the tri is a great club especially with the i15s.

  Heh-that was before your latest sabbatical and before the 2nd R9 showed up. As I recall you were wimping along with the G10 back then. :)  The Tri will do you good but you have to keep working at it and it fouls up the swing on your irons because it's so different. When used with the i15s it's quite manageable, IMO. With slower meter clubs you find yourself pulling the irons. 

  Swing the newer R9 a few times and you'll immediately see the difference, especially on mishits. They're all going to turn into R11s when you get there anyway.  ;-)

  I played a fellow club member and he had the Tri and out drove my R11 every hole so not sure on meter speed but good luck Mainz

   

  I Played with the Callaway's (S) and he played with the (Z)!!!

  This person might have been playing with LEGEND balls, and you with the ones in your bag as i can see, standard ones.

  I upgraded from the 275 yard R9 to R9 tri, and i stayed with it for months untill i was high enough level to buy the 280 yard R9.  Once i got used to the meter, the tri would keep up with opponents who had the R9 280 yarder, and i was well happy with it.   Then i got to level 280, bought the new R9 and was amazed by the slower meter, and loved it,(but precision wasn't as good).  Now i own the R11 and can drive places due to high loft i couldn't dream of reaching with 280 yarder R9. (with standard callaways) The only way people out drive me now is if they use legend balls because i don't bother use them, what's the point in having balls that depreciate quicker for a few extra yards?

  I just got the L80 R9, looking forward to a few practice rounds with it but won't be using it for anything important until I've got used to it.

  OK, after a few rounds I can safely say the L80 R9 is the very finest of dog's bollocks.  Meter is scarcely faster than the L62 version (seems very close to the Burner 2 irons) but the ball carries an extra 20-30 yards.

  I'm finding new areas of fairway with this thing, an absolutely great driver.
