Someone just posted recently that a little less than 1/2 bs into a headwind minimized what you lost in distance. I use bs on all drives except for certain SA holes/winds. The carry invariably outdistances the roll.
Something you can try in practice that works pretty good is to aim way against the wind and miss the swing in the direction of the wind with full backspin. You can get some serious carry doing that but be careful to allow for it.
