    Several reasons. One is all the space between the stars. Universe is realy big.

    so funny......but sad at the same time......people just dont look up at night time as much as they should.......i live in rural spain and love to lay up on the roof and just ponder

    And it's strange, back in late 60's and early 70's aboard submarine and miles away from land at sea, standing lookout watches.  I don't ever recall seeing this

    Maybe the moon was always washing it out.  Many stars overhead yes, but not that.

    Maybe also, was in the Atlantic side of the U.S.
