I specifically removed the flagstick so this would not happen. Yet, I still somehow hit the flagstick and ricochet off of the green

This is a bug that needs fixing. Never has happened before

You're right; it is a bug. But (to me) it doesn't look like it hit the flagstick. It looks like it hit the side of hole.

    hit edge of hole.

had it happen to me on a flop shot on Merion. Hit the edge and ricocheted off further than my original flop distance.

I've only had it happen once.

i was on mobile at the time. couldn't save the video.

First Robert is correct your ball hit the edge of the cup not the flag stick.

Second it is not a bug. The cup is usually hard plastic and in some cases some type of metal, A ball hitting the edge of the cup on the fly can have some very strange ricochets.

I have had it happen once here and once in real golf. The one in real golf ricocheted about 10 yards then landed on the down slope of the green and rolled another 10 yards or so off the green in a very poor lie causing a double bogey,

for the ease of those trying to view the original link try this LINK

I would have nearly expected that result on this shot but must have gotten a lot of rain as the ball just plugged.  and, no complaints I would always be happy with a tap in birdie there.
