The Budman is confused, and a bit drunk so bear with me please.  What am i to do about my Wedgies?  I mean there are the Cleavers from the lower levels (26-31) that have the same stats as Taylor'sHomeMades from higher levels (38-39), and with better ball flight (are they too good to be true?).  Then there are the PingPang twins with the best precision, but same med/high ball flight as the TM's, which to me makes zero sense as any wedge regardless of degree goes pretty darn high in the air if you hit them right.  Or are they all the same and it really doesn't matter other than distances?  Assuming i will not purchase any other wedgies until i get to the good Cleavers, whats the best option for The Budman...opinions welcome please.

I'd say throw in three Taylormade Satin wedges. The gaps I would cover are the 98, 77, and 50 yard wedges.  Or if you want to give up a little spin, I carry the 100 and 75 yard Ping wedges with the 50 yard Satin.  Pick your poison.

Another whole dilemma i've been facing is how many wedges to carry?  I see most carry 3 with a hybrid or a 3-wood, i see few carrying 2 with a hybrid and 3 wood, and some yet carry 4 with no woods at all.  I know for myself that i need at least 3, but for now my 3-iron only goes 200, so until i can get the G10's or better, i think i need the 3 wood.  To have a hybrid that only goes 5-10 yards further seems like a waste of a club to me.

The wedge posse will soon be hear to help with your dilemma .  I'm only  replying because of what caught my eye in your statement. Instead of only considering yardage in the performance of the 2 clubs in which you speak. My advise , (take it or not) would be to consider what performance advantages can be utilized out of 21* degrees of loft  in comparison to 14* degrees of loft  when considering coming out of a nasty lie , as well as how  warmly welcomed coming into a glass green.

Mr. TheAceFactor...I will take your advice under consideration, so thank you.  My current set up is an R-11 3 wood (with a high trajectory) and the Srixonian Z Balls.  I have thought, as you did, about where i might need a hybrid, or more importantly how often, and have come to somewhat of a conclusion.  As i do not find myself in too many "nasty lies" off the tee (as a hybrid would only be needed after an arrant tee shot),  also i'm assuming a "nasty lie" is that of 30% + rough. I'm of the opinion that to replace my 3-wood, which i use quite often, with a hybrid for just those rare occasions is not prudent.  If i do happen to find myself in a lie of the nasty nature, i take what i can get with which ever iron is appropriate and try to get up and down with a skilled wedge shot which lands like a butterfly with sore feet.  Although, as i move up in the ranks, i will be more likely to consider the switch you have suggested as the greens appear to play more like glass than the mulch bed greens i'm used to putting / landing on now.  Also considering the higher the level, the further the hybrids travel, thus reducing the need for a 240 yd 3-wood.  And yes i do realize the tees move back when you get to higher tiers.

I am still quite interested in which wedges to end up with for the time being.  If someone could shed some light it would be much appreciated.

I like the words wedgies, Cleavers, Taylor'sHomeMade and PingPang.

About the wedges: Buy the Cleaves.
