shing1: i dont want the game to be easy, i want the game the same for everyone, so if players are shooting under 30 or under 60 everytime they play, they obviously aint getting the same amount of VEM in there game as other very good players....for some strange reason!!
Or a person could simply conclude that they are obviously better players.
There's a qualitative difference between a very good player to an excellent player to an elite player. One of the first things to look at determine that difference is the one-putt percent.
I just did a quick glance at the top-10 players in earnings for the year. As a group, no one has a one-putt percent below 60% and the average is 66.7%.
And turning to sand saves and scrambling stats, all of them (except 2) have percents over 80% with a couple over 90% in each category. For the other two, one is in the 70s and the other is in the 60s.
Bottom line is this: when they're on the green, they know how to make putts. And when they're around the green they know how to turn potential bogeys into pars (if not birdies).
None of the above has anything to do with VEM. It's simple knowledge and skill. A person needs both to be elite. I have decent knowledge and average skill, which is why I'm never going to be better than I am, which is good enough for me. But I have no problems acknowledging the skill others possess that I do not.
