Redwood vs Spyder

  I have been using the Spyder putter for some time, and am intrigued by Lee's comment that his Redwood putter is "the best one out there" (or something like that).  I'm wondering what is the Redwoood putter going to do that my Spyder doesn't do?  IYHO (in your humble opinion), why is the Redwood better than the Spyder?

  It's a lot more precise, especially from longer distances. Its meter is faster, but if you hit it right (ring the bell), you can be sure that's gonna be one excellent putt. That experience isn't as frequent with the Spyder putter.

   Hi Warren ...I still have both the Spyder & Redwood putters, and like them both. Spyder is nice b/c of the slower meter, and I think it was a wee bit better on the longer putts, IMO, even if it is less accurate. I just seemed to be able to gauge the speed better.

    That said, I've been using the Redwood exclusively for a few weeks. As long as I'm not leaving monster putts, it is definitely better. 15, 30 , 45 foot distances are a little easier to work with. Also, the Redwood seems to hold the line much better on slight mishits than the Spyder even though it saps a bit of the power.

  Use whatever works for you ... that's the best putter.

  Warren-The slow meter on your Spyder is a trade-off for accuracy. That is why the Redwood is better-it's more accurate. Using the higher scales takes the speed issue out of play because your backswing is so short.

  I find that using the higher scales also creates a truer roll and because of this I use the 45,90 and 150 ft scales almost exclusively with the 15 ft scale for the gimmies. I very seldom use the 30 scale because it's the same value as the 15. This works particularly well on the fast greens where your putting strength can get you in trouble.

  I also find that the club has a good-sized sweet spot that lets you putt by missing the mark. Instead of moving the aimer I miss the ding on the side of the break. This takes a little practice but it works nice for me.

  I've never tried the Spyder-I bought the Redwood after using the Anser and went strictly by the accuracy rating. At your invite-this IMHO.

  Be true to the putter that works best for you. The Spyder actually works best for me, and I'm playing a lot better golf. Also, I personally like TM in real life, so I guess I play better using their clubs. Try out some different clubs, and pick the one you feel you play best with.

  I prefer the redwood  because of the accuracy..and i find finding the distance better with the available meters..I have a spider, use it sometimes when im slumping ..the slower meter is nice..its abit more forgiving when im missing the dingline  but the beast rears its head more with the spider

  I USE BOTH IF I AM STRUGGLING W/ ONE I SWITCH, BEEN DOING THIS FOR THREE WEEKS NOW IT SEEMS TO WORK SO FAR.

  I've been using the redwood for a while. Just purchased the spider to try, was in a putting slump.

   

  They are both great! It seems easier to just jar in the shorties and straight mid range putts with the spider.  The redwood seems superior on breaking / downhill putts. It is so precise that you can drop it in drunk on those, which keeps you from having so many deadly 5-8 footers for par.

  Just be very carefull on the 'gimmies' when switching between the two.
