Kiawah hole 17 - targeted 10 yards left; left to right wind at 10mph; perfect swing; ball launched way right of pin and continued right landing well short and in the water.

What casues this to happen.  No way one should be penalized for a perfect swing.  perhaps it was slope of the tee box, but how does one tell if you are not standing on a flat t-box?

That crops up every now and then on that hole...got me last week too.

Ofcourse I did send in a detailed bug report asking for my ball back...but alas I'm still ball-less;)

Not disputing that you may have "dinged" the shot , but ,  a very minor ( 1 or 2 pixel) push becomes a very pronounced push very quickly in such a crosswind , as does a pull in an opposite cross wind. It's in a sense , fueling the fire. Again , not disputing , but not extremely uncommon in such a wind. Another thing to consider is ,  that particular green/pin to a player sits in like , the 11:00 o'clock position as opposed to the typical 12:00 possibly (quite easily) making an adjustment appear to be approx. 10 yards when in fact it is not. The ball is in flight for a considerable amount of time there and with a 10/12 mph. crosswind, an adjustment all the way into the left bunker is not uncommon. Well , I've rambled enough on this one. Prestigious finishing hole...gotta' bring the goods on  #17.

Along with what Ace pointed out, it's also quite possible the wind isn't what you thought it was. You say left to right but was it a true left to right or was the wind indicator wavering like it usually does? Probably hard to remember now but in the future, pay attention to how that indicator wavers. Cross winds can carry your shot just as easily as they can knock it down so you need to figure out which one you have. If that indicator wavers up and back it will probably carry. If it wavers down and back it will probably knock the shot down. This may be where your shot went astray because if you land short right and the wind is pushing the ball you wind up in the drink.

Uh huh ,  and another hole that this you speak of  tends to leave some  "taking off hat and scratching head"   is St. Andrew's # 3. Easily be sitting 2 and still 6/8  yards short or long if what Jim mentioned is not observed.
