I've added the post below to the forums I control  and those I visit.

I thought it maybe an idea to post it here so others can pick it up and post it to boards they are members of, add, subtract or change as you wish

    Chips.

    Come Golfing with me.

I find a lot of relaxation and frustration by playing golf on my computer.

Golf is the only sport I ever took to and I didn't take up the game until my late 30s. I was passionate about it, loved the course, the quietness, exercise and chasing that ball around 18 holes.

I was never a very good golfer but with the handicap system I was able to hold my own with the best of players.

Then around 1980 I badly injured my back while playing the York Town open and I never regained the confidence to swing the club again. I missed the game and all its challenges

Then about 3 years ago I discovered World Golf Tour on the computer which provides you with a variety of actual courses and realistic action which is as close to the real game as you can get.

Even though I knew how to play golf, I was shocking when I first started and played many practice games before I was confident to join other players... and when I did that I was hooked.

I've played people from all nations across the planet and collected well over 400 friends along the way, all with the singular purpose of improving their game and enjoying themselves.

You start off as a 'Hack' with an average of 150, the idea then is to improve your average and progress to higher levels of, Amateur, Professional, Tour Professional, Master, Tour Master and finally to the elevated heights of Legend. I guarantee you'll have lots of fun and frustration along the way.

Once you've attained a new rank, you will never go back to the lower one but if you play badly, your average will increase until you bring it down again with better play.

Playing is free and you are supplied with clubs and an endless supply of balls. As a Hack to a Professional these are great to start and play with but as you progress you'll find that you need better clubs and balls.

Better equipment can be purchased in the Pro Shop but there is no rush. Learn the courses and your clubs before rushing to make a purchase, you'll know when it's time to upgrade. However that being said, I do recommend the purchase of some balls which will give you a decent backspin. They will help you progress a lot quicker.

Remember, you don't have to know anything about golf to play, you will learn as you go along but I will give you this advice.

Once you start a multiplayer game, Always finish it. Not doing so will cost you and your fellow players experience points if you disconnect and could also freeze the game for others which doesn't make you popular.

No matter how badly you play... sticking with the game earns the respect of the other players. Remember you are always playing against yourself and your true ability will reflect in your average score.

    Good luck and Good Golfing.

Well stated in every regard, Chips!

One point: like you, I injured my back whilst playing golf. I had several disc surgeries in June to remove the pain and begin rehab. With physical therapy to gain back lost strength, and rebuilding my swing from scratch I'm back on the course. With the new conservative swing i don't hit 'em as far as I used to, but I'm definitely more accurate ... so my scores are essentially unchanged.

I'm 66 years old, so I'm not taking any more chances with my back, but it was worth the effort.
