I have been using K15s since lvl 38 and just hit 60 so I decided to upgrade to G10s since I'm master level and I could really use the extra distance.  I am using that set with callaway tour i(s) balls and just having a terrible time.

I know I am still very new to the set (just bought them yesterday), but after playing 5+ rounds I thought I would be more at ease.  Hitting the ding is killing me the most, but that will improve with practice.  My main question is should I use full backspin on my shots, and if so, do I need to add significant yardage to my shots?  I was using the dove promo balls with the K15s and full BS, and now that I am using the callaways I supposed I need to back down on the spin, but I wanted to see what others have noticed.  Any advice you can offer is much appreciated!

I am a backspin junky and use full bs everychance I get.

AS BEST I CAN Remember ......

With Callaway balls I think you will subtracted 5 yrds off the distance of everything 190 and shorter  ( the 210 club still goes 210 even with full bs )  so a 145 club will travel 140 yrds and stop on dime with full bs.  ( 160 goes 155 etc)

1/3 to 3/4 bs and I think the g10s with callaways will travel clubs rated yardage

Congrats on your g10s.... at your level , more $$ has been won with those irons than all other irons put together

when i got my new burner irons, and cleveland wedges, i took a bunch of my normal ball gs13's and some callaways and spent all of 2 days on the ctth courses to find out how to manage the back spin.  it was very illuminating what a cleveland wedge can do with a callaway ball!!!  good luck, my nickel.

You'll love these irons thats for sure.  Make the most of them, get to know what your distances are with full BS and practice hitting the dings.  Once you get that, you'll be tearing up the tournaments .  I'm still using my G10's, one more level to go to get the TM 2.0's though, boy I'm going to miss my G10's.  A fantastic club indeed.

I have to admit that I actually miss my G10's, they were fantastic!! Give them some time and you'll soon feel the same, besides the high trajectory is good practice for the burners even though they seem to go quite a bit higher :-)

Stop with the spin for a minute. You went from a Med/High trajectory club to one with a High trajectory, a very big difference. Your K15s needed spin to stop them because they came in low and hot. The G10s are different in that they come down at a steeper angle and don't need copious amounts of back spin to stop. In fact, back spin will shorten them quite a bit, especially going into the wind. Because of that higher trajectory the ball will be affected by wind direction much more than the K15s as they are in the air longer.

Learn them with out the spin first. They are very accurate and will surprise you at how softly they land with quite a bit less roll out than your K15s. Spin will exaggerate deviation on missed hits and will make your game miserable (think you're seeing that now) until you get comfortable with how the irons react to it.

When you do get comfortable and go to the spin try using it this way-put the dot on the ball over the V (1/2) to control the landing and use the full backspin when you want to get fancy and back it up, control distance or stop immediately. Top spin will help offset wind in your face. Backspin into wind will severely knock down the yardage. You made a good choice so don't get discouraged and give up on them

Thank you all for the feedback, it has been very helpful!  I look forward to getting better with this new club set.

I'm still using the G10's. Although I'm testing out the TM 2.0s right now. This should help you out. All these yardages are with the Legend Z Ball. You really don't need the S ball.

I'll give you the FULL BACKSPIN yardage first and the NO BACKSPIN yardage 2nd. But don't stop there. In between full bs and full TOP bs you can have as much as 15 yrds difference in one club. And everything in between. With no bs you will get run out. That's why the 2nd yardage has "ish" behind it. Even with full bs you get run out with the 3,4,5 & 6. Sometimes the 6 bites pretty decent though.

I will add when using full bs (which I use 80% of the time) if you miss the ding on the wrong side of the wind you'll pay for it. They liked to be dinged. Even more so than the TM 2.0s IMO but that's for another thread.

    Here you go:

    PW 112 - 120ish

    9 128 - 134ish

    8 138 - 150ish

    7 151 - 165ish

    6 171 - 180ish

    5 186 - 196ish

    4 194 - 210ish

3 (psycho iron) 207 - 220 230 260 210 (like I said psycho iron) It is pretty consistent with full bs at 207 or so though.

Would the yardages be the same for the non-legend z balls?

    LOL @ Psycho Iron

Since I hit Master tier at about level 42 I've been dreaming (and slogging out rounds day after day) of a set of G10's.

It breaks my heart when a perfectly hit Calloway S still results in chips because I'm coming from so (insert expletive) far away and at a trajectory not really ideal for stoppage.

I envy you Sir!  I'd rather be learning them and lamenting, then grinding like I am with me ol' irons.
