This common man was getting all confusables regarding when to chip and when to pitch - its not as easy as a feller might think and such. This tiptorial will show an example of a situation where one does have to choose one shot or the other - watch Yancy make his choice and the results.

Bob Feller was a Hall of Fame pitcher with the Cleveland Indians, and Chipper Jones is an Atlanta Brave.  Does this help?

that particular shot id use the 50y satin u have and put it to full bs. if its around 16-20y or so id go 25y on the satin. more than 20y id add around 5y with full bs - eg if 25y then go 30y on the satin with full bs. itll go v close.  maybe someone else will use flops or what nots but thats the shot im used to using around the greens . hope it helps mr yancy.

maybe go for the full distance pitch shot with 4/5ths backspin(considering its uphill too)..

Tsk, tsk. Seems like our friend, the Yancmeister, didn't read Iconian's piece on Chip and Pitch Tips. If he had he would have known that the pitch does more rolling than carrying. Maybe now he'll use the flop next time and lay off the back spin so the ball doesn't give in to the gravity affect of hitting a downslope.   ;-)

    For Yancycan:

Iconian on Chip and Pitch Tips:

The pitch shot gives about 50% air travel before hitting the green. This means less time rolling, and less influence from the break.

The point is to know how far the shot will carry (from notes) and then closely examine where your shot will land. If its an upslope it will check up.  If its a downslope it will roll more.

Thanks for that clarification, Andyson. Makes my statement look totally wrong even though we looked at it differently. I made the mistake of addressing the example where the carry of a pitch wasn't enough.  FWIW, full topspin on that shot probably would have rolled it past the danger point. :-)

Sorry.  Since Icon said it will carry about 50% in the air I didn't see it that way.  No argument Yancy's Pitch shot didn't carry far enough.

sorry guys, didn't clarify enough, full distance as i mentioned would be the first bounce point of the pitch shot, of course elevation and slope need to be taken into account but that's sort of the guidelines i have been using lately, seems to work for now...
