  I was averaging pretty close to 74 ,...   2 days ago,  and really was more or less locked in at that level ( score),..but as I've been very active since I returned to play 5 weeks ago and started for the first time to engage in multi-player games.....all formats included, consequently my "level"  increased rapidly from around 40 right up to my present 62.

  So 2 days ago, I went against my initial vow to never "purchase clubs to play" and re fit my bag with some new clubs and a better ball,....in doing so, initially I was confused by the different yardages each club carried, along with the meter speed changes.

  So I spent a couple of hrs playing solo, trying to adjust,...then I jumped back into competition and can honestly say that my scoring average has gone from 74 , down to 71.76.  My best round came  yesterday at Kiawah Ocean Course where I carded a 2 under par 70, and today at Royal St George's front 9....2 under par!!

   

  So I have to agree with the advice I've been getting,.." get better clubs",....they were NOT lyin!!!  I may never reach Master,...and that does not bother or deter me from competing and trying to play my best!!!...........This is intended to urge serious players to upgrade if they want to enjoy the game better!!...Only cost me $20   ( no beer this week)

  I'm also up in the air about paying to upgrade.  I quite enjoy my beer :)

  There is no doubt better equipment makes the game easier. I too will not spend "real money" so I use surveys/offers/videos to add credits. Take 1 hour once a week  (or whatever works for you) and burn through as many surveys as you can. It is not uncommon for me to get about 650-700 credits for about 1 hour of survey time.

  Likewise the free videos are great for cheap people like me. Spending about 5 minutes a day to watch the 7 videos will get you 75 credits per week if you do it ever day. Do it while a course is loading or between shots. Yes, surveys and videos take time away from playing golf, but playing golf putting for birdies instead of pars and not spending a dime is worth it for cheapskates like me.

  I tried those surveys,..99.9 % of time...I fail to qualify!!!!  Wrong zip....race...gender....age......marital status......employer......likes...dislikes.....list goes on and on....a waste of time for the most part. I was successful in ONE...failed in about 10.

  First point to OP - absolutely!  The free clubs etc are rubbish, and once you get to Pro Tier (which can happen in days from starting) they become complete garbage.  So get better clubs and use better balls.

  To those who don't want to buy credits, there really are simple and better ways to get plenty without wasting time trawling through surveys and video's.  You just have to loosen the purse strings a little.  For example, I registered a domain name with Go Daddy and bought a downloadable game from Go Fish.  Total outlay was $11.  Credits = 4250.  Plenty for new clubs, drivers, putter and sleeves of good balls.

  I have had some luck with the survey's, but blow the credits on balls right away. I bought $20 worth of credits a few months ago and upgraded all my clubs, huge difference. Problem is I always just play the ranked games so my level creeps up so slowly all the really good clubs are still locked. I mean after 4+ years playing this game you would think "I would be past level  49...maybe I'm being robbed or something. You have to play like 60 ranked rounds and 40 tournaments to advance a level it seems. But then again I take huge time breaks from the game as it get boring and is the same old thing. But, again if you can upgrade your clubs and balls....it makes all the difference in the world....have fun and play well.

  Ecka65......Now there's a neat idea,...I'm into flight sims & WWII shooter games,..Illl look see  maybe I can purchase a game I can use!!..Tks

  Your level is only affected by experience. If you play consecutive days you get bonus XP every day up to a cap of 880 XP per day. I joined on Aug 3rd, 2011 and have played every day, 51 consecutive days. I'm about to hit level 57.

  If I don't have time to play a full round I simply play a CTTH since it's only 9 shots. If I know the next day will be busy I play a CTTH and save/exit after the 8th hole. That way all it takes is a 2 minute logon and 1 shot to get the consecutive day 880 XP.

  43 days ago when I returned from a year hiatus,..I was a level  30 something I think...since then I.ve gotten up to level 65. I play very very little tourneys,...mostly ranked play in all formats along with a good amount of practice,...of course having the time is most important,....I seem to have a lot!!!  Goferit!

  Back on to the original topic, I just bought a 54 and 60 zsatin to go with my 64 cleveland.  I'm thrilled with this 4$ purchase.  Makes me wonder how I did so well with a 70-112 yard gap now that i have 2 clubs between there that make it easy to get close to the hole.
