I've been trying to find some analogue for this technique here on WGT, well, I think I finally have this down after much experimentation.

You will find this type of shot very useful on the 'links' style courses here in high winds. RSG #9 and #18 are where you are going to want to use this technique the most after having your ball roll off the green! If you have the clevelands - whatever, just use your flop - but even if you do have them, you should try this to expand you skills!

The shot type to use is Pitch. You want to use a club that gives you twice the yardage of your shot, use full top spin, and hit a bit more than half power if you are bumping up a slope - how much more depends on the slope.    This keeps the flight of the ball very low, it dies into  the slope and still  rolls nicely to the hole.   Play any breaks just like you normally would for a chip shot.

This may also be useful for going up over a small false front of a green that has a downslope to the hole. I'll need to practice this myself, only tried it once in this situation with good result   - but really a flop is generally better here anyways.

IRL I use the 5 and 7 to do this. Maybe a partial punch with them here would allow that shot from further out. Interesting, going to go try it.  :-)

yeah I've tried pitching / chipping the 7i here, but hitting with such little power isn't a good recipe for control or consistency here. ~1/2 power on a wedge seems to work rather well though with consistent results.

Head right out to RSG back and go left of the green on #18 and see what you can make work. Let me know if the setup is working for you YJ.

Birdwell this example is not quite as how you have described but it is a shot a play a lot. The Z Satin 50 yard lob pitches 13 yards. If however you play it with full topspin it will run 18 yards across a flat surface. I like playing the pitch with topspin it gives you a more consistent roll towards the hole. If you nail the ding and can read the greens well, it will improve your chances of holing out.

A miserable failure. The flight isn't low enough to catch the hill, even with a 25% 3i punch. LOL-I did learn the risk/reward isn't worth it anyway.

    Sweet shot tiffer!

I play the ping wedges, which have a higher loft and lower spin than the satins. Perhaps clubbing up and hitting half power with top spin produces a similar loft and thus the nice roll.

I LOVE that ping 64* and 60* flopping out of bunkers, the satin just doesn't flop out of the sand to my liking -  the distance isn't usable in some bunker situations. I've holed out on Oakmont #9 from that bunker many many times. But the ping is just hell to stop on a regular flop off the fringe / fairway - you have to get a bit creative on certain shots because of that. WGT dosen't list the 'bounce' angle of the clubs - It's like the pings have a better bounce angle for sand or something -  just a half witted postulate there of no significance.. lol.

On RSG #17 I was short of the false front earlier. 12 yards to the pin, 3 feet up. I clubbed up to the 25 yard pitch of the 60*, hit half on the meter, but  with full BS instead of topspin. Ball landed a few feet onto the green at the top of the front and rolled up to the pin... left it a foot short. Next time will try no spin or half spin.

Thanks for the tip - great way to fill the yardage gaps between chips. 6 yard chip just a bit out of range, bump and run solves it.
