note: these tips are guaranteed to work less than 100% of the time. If something I share works for you 100%, then you must be doing something wrong! Please be aware that I consider myself a brilliantly mediocre player at this game, but i try to take something away from every round and not moan about VEM and deviations for the majority of my time on the virtual grass. Please feel free to discuss, debunk, or expand on anything here. Some may be hole or course specific, some may just be something to ponder over, and I may even get into some Oblique strategies as well.
***additional caveats; reading comprehension and a capacity for abstract thought may be required.
Tip #1: reading the break on different green speeds;
Even if you have the various green speeds down as far as distance, it can really throw off your putting having to continually adjust your reads to the different green speeds,. My strategy to mitigate this is to hit very firm and take aggressive lines on tourney greens, and I try to let the ball fall in drunk on very fast or even slower greens. This may feel counter-intuitive at first but if done well, you will see that you do not have to greatly adjust how much break you play given different conditions.
