I was able to put a few birdies in the pocket this week and walked off the course with a 66 for week 35

Well, when the 9 National forests were closed here in CA, we were told to leave pretty much immediately.  The friends we were helping own a RV Park/campground with 10 cabins, we were trying to get as much out of the cabins as possible in case the fire took a turn.

Anyway, my wife and I decided to go to Reno for a couple of days and this is what we found, couldn't take it so we came home.  The picture was taken from the 33rd floor of the Silver Legacy Hotel at about 3pm with the Air Quality Index at 428 meaning Very Hazardous air.  The smoke is coming from the Caldor Fire in CA where we were last week helping family evacuate.

In short, I'll get this week's round in.

I was enjoying the fresh air so much, I took a long time to play a couple of the holes and made bogey.

    Along with those 2 boge's,I made 7 birds for a 67.

    Wk 35 18 HSP Best of Par 4's - 61

Solid round with only one stupid missed putt for a change. Lots of tap in pars and several tap in birdies as the approach game was working.

    See you next week.

Have fun and hit 'em straight,

    John

    Week # 35 Score:  77 (+5)

I'm very realistic about the weaknesses of my game.  My putting game is a mess and my medium irons are erratic.  Having said that, by this point in my WGT career, I think I'm a fairly good calculator of distance/wind/elevation.  When I miss, it's usually because I mishit the shot, not because my calculations were way off.  Well... that certainly isn't true on this Best of Par 4 course.  I left four approach shots 20+ yds short of my calculated distance (at 6, 10, 16, and 18) and that's just not right.  Certainly not typical for my game.  I can man up about poor performances, but I don't really think this BofP4 course is fairly set up. Many of you seem to be able to make the adjustments better than I did, so I admit the fault for not handling this better is mine alone.

I know this is whiny and not in keeping with the spirit of our club, so it is what it is and I'll play on.  But, I wish they'd skip these damned "Best Of" courses.  They suck and playing them is just dispiriting.

So I'm cruising along having a good round for me, -8 through 16, thinking this is going to be one of my best tournament rounds.

Then the infernal 15th at Bethpage, and bungling to double bogey.

Still finished with a 66, not bad, but a come down from where I thought I would be.
