How can a long say 20 ft putt, not break, when it clearly shows a break.. but when you miss, that 2-3 foot putt breaks like a sob..how

I have no idea but since I'm well versed in that riddle, if you figure it out, I'll pay to know the secret.

When you shot a 20 ft putt you use more power, more power means more speed, means less resistance. Therefore when the speed builds up it is easier to maintain the line until the speed lowers. On a long putt you will notice it stays true to the line the more power you give it, as it slows the breaks will show in the line.  Now on a 3ft putt like you were talking about less power is used therefore the break effects the ball more as the speed needed to maintain the line has not been met. A preety simple explanation but hope it helps to understand it.

Ok, so how come a putt that is down 4" is missed by 2' long and wide and the return putt is down 4"?  I know I used to walk uphill in the snow to and from school, but didnt know it would happen in a computer game. lol

Thanks, I understand the speed on the long distance, meaning less break.. but as the ball approaches the hole it's slowing down that last few feet, and then should break., but when it doesn't you miss by say that 2 or 3 feet..Then once you try to hit the next putt, even if you hit it a little hard, you get the break, one would figure to get on the 1st putt...Not ever hole, but often enough to be confusing and frustrating..

Another example...I just had a 40 ft putt up 13 inches, I putted less than the total distance, but ran the ball 8 foot past...And the green is not showing any down slopes on that putt either..Tournament speed greens...Then the very next hole, I had an 11 ft putt up 2 inches, I putt for 10 ft thinking I'll get the extra foot, nope goes 10 ft lol..It's so incredible unpredictable as to keep you at's wits end on how hard to putt the ball..As a general rule I do great, just once in a while these unpredictable putts screw up a round by these long misses or coming up inches short...Or break when they shouldn't and not break when the should...

This game mimicks real life.  Just like putting on a real green, ball doesnt always do what you think it will do.  And at my local course the speeds change daily depending on cutting, watering and weather.  So dont complain, unless you complain about your real game too.

Very simple explanation for this if you just think about "where the pin is cut." If you were an ant standing on the edge of a dinner plate, and walked in a straight line completely across to the other edge , you would have traveled down , and then back up again. Then , to get back to the center of the plate , you would indeed have to travel "down" once again.
