As for not picking Mickelson last week, I suspect most of us would have been laughing had we seen a Mickelson pick. Given his driving for the last year or more, who could have predicted he would pick last week, in the wind and a very long and treacherous Kiawah, to stay out of serious trouble off the tee the entire week. That said, I was certainly rooting for him last Saturday and Sunday.
Even Phil gets the irony. He was asked by the press today or yesterday about being considered for the Ryder Cup, he said "if I was captain, I wouldn't pick me. I would have to see multiple high level performances over a period of 3 months." He did go on to say it would be fun to be in the conversation in August.
