I've found that for lower level putters the apparel improves consistency of power and line, but for the higher level putters the difference is pretty small. When I play rounds with apparel I do use the MAX shoes with putting forgiveness, which I've found keeps the ball on line better when I miss the ding unintentionally.
The downside is when I'm intentionally trying to miss the ding (probably only a couple times per round), I have to miss by more in order to have the same effect.
