Adalanar: With the irons this method does not work that good as distance control is quite a challenge (it does with the Raptors that I do not carry anymore). As I am not able to hit the ding I am trying to get better with this method but I am wondering I I should invest the time to learn how to ding the irons
Without a doubt the G10s will kill you if you try to aim by missing. Their precision is the reason. They are very accurate if you ding them but miss that ding and you bring more than the standard deviation into play, oftentimes with drastic results. You can get away with this method with your Satins, driver and putter but the irons are different.
Rather than struggle by missing on purpose, try aiming and missing together. Aim like you normally would and then picture in your mind's eye what missing the ding 1 or 2 pixels on the side of the wind would look like. Don't actually try to miss there, try to ding the shot but visualize the miss before you swing (almost like giving yourself a post hypnotic suggestion.) Your misses will be closer to the ding and if on the correct side of the wind you will get decent outcomes. You also take out of play the wild deviation you get when you miss with the wind. Eventually you will adapt to what it takes to ding, or get very close.
