Fighting to stay in I found myself on the 16th tee at -4. Two birdies in the last 3 to qualify. On the 16th green in regulation, lip out putt, par.  17th, still alive but knowing tough to birdie out. Greenie off the tee, another lip out! MF!  On to 18, all I need is an eagle. great wind, huge drive but the 3 iron sails way left. Pulled up my pants, hitched up my belt and pulled out the wedge on the green. Ding, boom, one bounce, stops short. No joy in Mudville. Made the putt for a 66.

So the Duffer walks off into the sunset of the 2021 Andyson Memorial with a tip of the cap to Dennis and a thank you to everyone who makes this tournament the fun it is. A reminder of why we play this game, fun and comradery.

Until next year, have fun and hit 'em straight,

    John

Totally forgot about this until a short while ago.  Chambers Bay - another course I detest!  Started off extremely slowly, but managed to get to -3 by the turn.  Another birdie on the 10th got me to -4, then I hit the pin with my drive on the short par 4 12th, stopping close enough to get the eagle.  Another birdie on the 16th put me safe-ish, but missing the ding late by a hair-width on the long par 3 17th sent the ball miles right into the bunker, and my 25yd flop only went 9yds, and the missed par putt putting me back on the cut line.  Another missed short birdie putt on the last left me on the cut line... but safe!  Also had my customary missed 3-footer somewhere on the back 9.

    Final score 65 (-6).

The photographers managed to get me on the 1st tee...

and here is me giving my post-round interview with Sky Sports...

For some reason they were more interested in where I got my Loudmouth trousers.  "WGT land" I told them  ;)

My round was very similar to DJ7's in that a long series of unlucky bounces and misread putts had me on the 16th tee at -4.  Fortunately, I was able to knock my last 3 approaches close enough to finish birdie-birdie-birdie and make it to the next round.

Sure wish I could give my spot to DJ7... he deserves it far more than I do.

And a shout-out to Slimjim001, who was gracious enough to play the round at Chambers with me and demonstrate how to get heartbeats on almost every hole.
