Hello, Level 90 Tour Master here.

Looking for some tried and tested suggestions for upgrading clubs particularly Driver, 3Wood, 64 wedge and Ball.

For 3WD i am confused between Callaway Level 86 and Max Level 92. The latter is around 500 credits cheaper but with 2 yard lesser distance.

Same dilemma for 64 wedge, Vokey or Max level 91.

Waiting for the next free rental weekend, till then please suggest/advice. Thanks!

Mine might not be the most knowledgable response , but I have always believed in buying the best clubs you can afford for your level , but only buy medium priced balls . The speed of a ball and it’s durability I believe are Important. I prefer callaway than Taylor made , I use two regularly, the level 39 speed 2.5, distance 4, and priced at 325 , and when I get tired , during the clash for example , I swap to level 34 which is same distance but slightly slower meter at 3.5 , and costs 450 credits. Keeping the distance the same helps enormously.

The best advice on balls is to try a lot , before settling on just one or two and stick with them.

For the 3WD, I went with the Callaway because I didn’t want to wait 6 more levels. Plus, as you get into the higher levels every yard of distance can matter.

For the 64, it was more about meter speed for me. I like the slower speed so I went with the Max. All of my clubs are 4.4 or 4.5 meter speeds, except the putter which is 5.0, and I like that consistency.

For your wedge…decision time. The Vokey 64° has a rated distance of 60 yards, the Max has 50 yds. The Vokey would compliment your other two wedges by giving you a preferred by many 100/80/60 yardage spread. The 64° has great versatility and can produce shots from 6 yds (pitch) to 63 yds (top spin). I don’t think you would be disappointed with that particular club.

The driver and 3 wd are, at least to me, personal preference. What do you feel comfortable with and yes, you are correct, it would best to try out a few during a free rental weekend. You are probably approaching legend tier at which you will definitely need a driver upgrade. So you have some time in which to try out various clubs; no need to rush on these two.

Ball selection is a matter of personal preference and is not as important now as it is at lvl 97 when the higher end irons become available. At that time you will definitely want to spend some time selecting the ball that will work best with the irons you use at that point. For now, like Leslie suggests, try out a number of them and use whichever one is within your budget and performs the way you want in the matches/rounds you choose to play. When you reach the level at which you will invest in your “final” set of irons you will then want to do some serious ball evaluation. You will be looking for a ball that compliments your irons and provides consistent results. It is not uncommon that your evaluation for “the ball” will be narrowed down to either TItleist or TM.

You already own the Vokey 56° and 60° wedges.  So it would only make sense to complete the set and buy the Vokey 64° wedge.

RE: 3WD - also look at the L90 Mizuno.  Best 3WD I've ever owned.  Yes, you give up a little distance, but you can hit it with full topspin to make up for that distance loss.  And the 5.5 forgiveness will fix all your missed dings.  Try it during the next Free Rental Weekend (probably in Sept or Oct) and see what you think.

Just my opinion here. I have 2 Vokeys and they are well behaving wedges, if you can adjust to the meter speed of 3.5

For me, the Vokeys are just too fast. I'm trying to hold out till I reach level 89 and get the Max Meter wedges with a meter speed of 4.5

I'll use my Vokeys until then.

You should try a slow meter ball if you can. The Vokeys are the best wedges imo, and small miss dings won’t punish you badly.
