Has WGT now become a game of darts?,I remember playing Iconian for 100 credits a game only when we both used Raps,We would play fairly often and there was way more skill involved trying to judge how the ball would react when it landed on the green,Bollin too was a wizard at this with G10s,Now i see a game that is dominated by the full bs and stop shot!,Sure dont seem as fun like this for me,Just wondered what other opinions were?Probably wont affect newer players who never had the chance to play the other way,

Is the way forward now for WGT  to introduce weather conditions to bring back that land and release element.Greens can be,,,Wet,,Damp...Dry,,Ect Ect,????

My Gran always used to speak of the good old days.

In the Summer it always shined, there was never snow in the Winter, a bottle of Mackeson was 2/d, you could always leave the backdoor open, neighbours always smiled and said hello. etc etc.

Off course (according to her) everything changed when Men landed on the Moon.

Oh well, life goes on, just got to face it and adapt.

Those were the good old days when shooting a 31 or 32 could win a ready go now 31 or 32 won't even get your credit back on most courses.  Those were the days when the only clubs in your bag that you knew wouln't roll on the greens were your wedges, now even the irons stop on a dime from 200 yards out.  Those were the days when you shot a 29 you felt really good about it, now you question a 29, you think about putts you miss that could have made it a 27.  Those were the days when we were all scared of the championship greens and legend tees, now the tiger woods factor is gone from those conditions.  On the other hand we asked for it, well most of us did.  There were post after post of how legends can't compete against masters and tour masters, they were post after post on how unfair the legend tees were, they were post after post on how WGT never listened and didn't care.  Now they have listened and given us all we wanted and kind of turned the game into a joke.  But it's still by far the best online golf game available and it's still the only game I play regularly.

Even if I was not there during those old good days, I know what you are talking about Tess. Indeed, I used starter ball up to the time I reached legend tier. With those balls, you can forget about the spin. It was quite common for the ball to roll 10-20 yds before to stop (sometime even more) even with low wind. I used also the rapture irons for while. It was fun but on the other hand with such an equipment (rapture/starter ball) it was impossible to play correctly Bethpage for example: small greens doesn't allow most of the time long ball rolls and elevated greens make them impossible to reach (bethpage #5 and #15 were a nightmare for example). So personally I don't regret that time. Now you are limited by your "skill" and knowledge of the game and not by the equipment.

If the game would evolve to become more challenging, I would prefer to see the addition of new parameters associated to each shots than to see a decrease of the equipment performances. With additional parameters, the score would be higher I guess (at least at the beginning) but good shots would still be due to skill and knowledge and bad shots would not be due to the poor equipment.

    Regards

You mean uphill/downhill lie as well as the ball above and below the feet. If these were put into play you would see the scores go up.

I would love to see this come into play!  I love WGT now but if these things were part of the equation it would make everything much more realistic all the way around.

If you really want to play old school style just go back to the house balls. You will be chasing your ball all over the green. I swap out my calli's every now and then and use house balls just for the fun of it. Give it a try and see if you really want to go back to "the good old days" There are some players I play multi-player with often and just to add a little more challenge we use the house balls. After a round of that I can't wait to reload my calli's.

The question is, can the RL pros do what we can here? Sometimes, if the conditions are right but more often than not they can't. We're playing on a flat surface. Anywhere you land it's flat for the next shot. Rough, sand, fescue, etc.-all flat. The only thing that influences your lie is an obstruction like a bunker wall in front of you. If the pros had this then yes, I suppose they'd be able to do what we can.

There's only one thing that's going to change it and that's lie factoring. IDK if it's possible with the way the game is but if it is that will make things right. Until then it's who can stick it the best. And the R11s are doing that in fine style.
