I always thought I would get more yardage driving into a headwind if I used some top spin but I see players using full back spin. This doesn't really make sense to me but I want to know what you all do. I also use some back spin when I have a tail wind. Just curious.

Try various spin settings with your ball. For me I found one or two ticks of backspin produces the greatest yardage in headwinds. Full backspin maximizes the wind so the ball climbs more vertically and you lose horizontal distance. FTS allows the wind to force the ball lower thereby also subtracting distance. A small amount of backspin overcomes the force of the wind just enough to allow it to counterbalance the downward force of the wind and let the ball travel further. I have tried hitting flat, half backspin, FBS, and various settings in between. For me the two ticks of backspin produced the best yardage. The best spin for tailwinds seems to be around 90% backspin. It will allow the ball to climb and ride the wind. FBS works well too but it has a tendency to translate horizontal distance into more vertical distance and you lose a few more potential yards.
