OK, went to ST Andy front 9  1st hole. Took all three of my wedges and did flop shots ( on the fairway )  All with TS wrote it down, all with BS wrote it down.

When I go to use them in a game ( the ball is on the fringe,or the fairway ) it comes nowhere close to the yardage it gave at St. Andy.

    Any thoughts.

    Thanks

    Gary

Factors that you would have to think about is the wind. What kind of wind were you looking at for all 6 shots? Not sure how much the wind plays on a flop shot but I would think it plays some part. Also did you hit the ding? If you miss the ding even by a little bit, your not going to get the same yardage. Also when you applied top spin and back spin, was it exactly the same for each of the 6 shots? I'm sure it was but I got to ask. Just trying to think of everything. And the only other thing I can think of now is elevation. Was it a flat surface or was it uphill/downhill? That will affect the overall yardage you get or not get.

Little side note here. I don't use Clevlands but I figured that everything I mentioned applies to all wedges and really clubs. If you want my opinion I would say go with Z Satins. But just my opinion. Look over what I asked above and try and make sure that everything is as close to the original conditions from when you took those 6 shots on St. Andy's. Then and only then you should come close to the yardage that you got on St. Andy's if not equal it. If not, then hell if I know. Maybe someone else has another idea. Good luck to ya.

All shots  were stopped on the line to the left of the ding, the fairway as you know on St. Andy is pretty flat , wind was low. I mean we are talking major diff. in yardage like my 64 flopped 19 with TS and 17 with BS. In a game when your counting on your findings a 20 yard flop goes at least 2 yards farther 22

Are you flopping fairway to fairway for practice?

The trying to apply that to the fairway to green flop in a game?

The main issue I can see with this is that you practiced by flopping onto a fairway....and then tried to use those exact yardages when flopping onto a green.

Problem is....your ball will roll a lot farther on the green than on the fairway...especially if it's downhill.  It's sort of like the difference between flopping onto linoleum...and flopping onto carpet (if you're on tourney greens).

That would probably account for the extra yardage you're seeing when you use it in a game situation.

DUH, Thanks sometimes you keep making the same mistake over and over and never see what you are doing wrong. Guess I need to go from fairway or fringe to green for a true measurement

    Thank you also Jerm65

so very very true,  sometimes just takes another persons perspective.

But hey,  maybe someone will read this topic and learn from your experience.  Thus, you had helped.

All in all,  your fw flops seem to have given you the carry yardages for the shots.  That should help in some way.

Use StA #10 for practice. Flop/pitch it onto the green, then putt it back off again. Rinse and repeat.

Make sure you flop/pitch onto a part of the green that is totally flat, for best measurements. Do it in a ranked round for proper green speed, do it in practice for VF and slower greens.

Note that wind does effect flops, so try getting a round with as little wind as possible, or sidewind if you mostly want distance.
