chrisironsbones: Hitting up and down fairway is obviously going to give you different results, you need the slick tournament greens for the extra yardages to kick in
Are you saying your stated yardages include roll-out on the greens? Not just the club's carry?
Yes Andy, the yardages i got are roughly what i get on greens , some are a touch longer some a touch shorter, its just a base to work from, its up to you then to know what greens are going to be say a bit longer or shorter, but when i give full back spin i will always get similar results "most" of the time with burners, i.e if i have 177 approach 10 mph headwind, i will use 190 iron with full back spin and that usually will be 187 yards -10 = 177 yards. or if its a flat green i might use my 175 iron with no spin, this wil also give me similar result 185(extra yardage roughly from ball) - 7 = 178
I'm currently playing a round at R.St.G with R11's for a change to see how accurate my table is for these clubs (but i know from experience these differ a lot each hole)
on first hole i had 170 yards to pin, i had 18 mph wind at say 5 o'clock, i added 18 yards to my shot due to wind, (a bit too much really lol) this gave me 188 yards, i gave full back spin to my 195 iron (calculated in my head 191"roughly" yards due to spin), lay off the power a few fractions, and land pretty close (well 3 yards, a bit further than expected, should have taken a yard off for wind), thats how i calculate my shots always with my rough table of yardages, it seems to work for me. (if i land over 3 yards any where at yardages over 160, i see it as a poor shot,)
My second hole approach i have 126 yards to pin 17 mph right left wind, i know my 120 iron is 128 yards with cally's, but with wind it might roll more, so i give a fraction of spin, full power, i land within a yard. the yardages ARE spot on.
Last bit of table proof, on hole #4 i am 175 to pin, 16 mph tailwind, i use 165 iron with a touch above full back spin,(full spin i think is 161 yards so a touch over should be 164, add 10 yards for wind) take shot and land 3 yards past, (should have given full spin. lol)but i forgot there's more roll on this green anyway.
On the par #3 its 180 yards i had 18 mph left right wind, i thought i'd try the 165 iron to see if it would reach, i got 176 yards out of it, roughly what i knew i would get from the cally's hitting off the tee because i roughly get 173 from fairway)
All i'm saying is my rough table does work as a base to calculate shots (well it does for me) you need to find out on what holes to differ slightly your approaches to get best results. And i'll print my score card to you can see i did birdie the mentioned holes (and when round is finished i'll post the replays also) so you can see for yourselves i'm not full of 5hit.
I havn't used my R11's for a week at least, i play my first ready go with them, sticking to my yardage table, i'm -9 at the 14th analyse that then Mr. YJ.LOL:)????(sorry jim, wasn't being sarcastic, only meant in humour.lol)
