I am not the most experienced player here, obviously, but I was also looking around for irons comparison.

At this moment, I am playing the MAX set as stated below, available from lvl 47 onwards.

I have enjoyed playing them right from the start. They have good distance, slow meter (esp compared to the other MAX set). And for me, looking to the future, was doubting to make a switch from this set to another.

As I noticing that high trajectory is very helpfull, I skipped the lvl64 irons and are planning to get the Calaways at lvl 85. Untill then, I continue playing the MAX set.

Looking for other wedges is a very good tip, I bought 2 Cleveland wedges (lvl 7-8) which I enjoy playing a lot, esp with regards to the low'ish price (495 each).

Just try to earn credits by running the vids for free credits, accumlate them and have a plan for your future. Don't spend 1500 cr for something you can only use for 10-20 levels at this moment, it's a waste of credits. I think starting from mid 70's, the speed of leveling up will decrease, so untill then, shoot for the stars, save up and buy smart.

    Good luck!

It's so easy to level up early, strictly coin games for me, that I didn't purchase a set of irons until the L59 Pings. They were great clubs and used until L85 Callaways. Max "Spin" wedges rock too. First driver was L55 Taylor Made and used until L85 Callaway.

I'd suggest that you get two solid & short wedges first, e.g. wait for the L39 Taylormades, 60° + 64°. They will help you tremendously in the short game!

I've seen people using the cleaveland cg16 and said it's really good, so I was planning to get that together with a set of irons. May I ask why will you need two wedges? Can't you just buy the wedge with the longest range and then power down for a shorter distance? It might sound strange, but this is a question since I started the game:)

The first CG16 are L8 which may be too low for a decent quality. The Talyormades (TM), OTOH, are proven quality at a good price, not too much more than the CG16s.

As a matter of fact, only the putter works linear down to low power strokes. I always try to stay below 30% for a slow swing speed.

Wedges and irons, OTOH, have non-linear responses. That is, at 75% they may shoot 70% or less, and it gets worse powering down further. The worst clubs are the Starters, and between them the Starter wedges, which will become almost unpredictable below 75 %.

That said, a common goal is to get equally spaced wedges below your PW. It may be 50 / 75 yds of the TMs or 60 / 85 yds of the CG16.

You may start with one 60° wedge and try it out. Alas, many players have dropped their Hybrid club to replace it with a third wedge (around 100 yds) to fit below a 115 yds PW of a better irons set.

I kept my trusty 64° (an older version of the TM) and dropped the other two of 75 yds amd 100 yds for high quality wedges for better approaches.

Thank you for the advice and your answer to my question. I have just bought a 100 ft wedge just before I saw your post. However, now maybe I will have to consider getting a 60 ft as well. I was actually planning to save credits by only getting a 100 ft and using it no matter long or short distance (lol). Maybe not the best method......

No offence intended, but <sighs> I wrote "short wedge" earlier...

Now you have a wedge which is longer than your PW - not ideal to say the least.

You should try to use partial power on it - perhaps report here how it performs at partial power.

I don't have the experience of a lot of the players posting advice, but my experience may be more recent.
These are very good thoughts on the matter!

    New to me:

    GreenLaser:
I played the Starter irons until I hit L59 and got the L59 Pings.  I'm not sure I'd do that if I started over. Those L15 Ben Hogans appeal to me.

The L15 BHs haven't been mentioned often here - maybe they are quite new, or simply overlooked?

On paper, they have a small edge on the L17 Ping G410, just a tad pricier. I'd also take the L25 BHs into account, mostly because their 90 yds PW fits well above only two wedges. They come with a more serious price tag though.

The L59 Pings stand out as the first available iron set with "high" trajectory. Later sets may outperform them. But, there is a serious grind involved to arrive at L83, 3x the XPs of L59!

Yeah, the 52° 100 yard wedge may not have been the best choice, but the L15 Ben Hogans come with a 110 yard PW, and the 200 yard 3-Iron of that set would let him drop the hybrid and go to a three wedge configuration if he wanted to do that.  I hit a few balls out of the first and second cut rough with my 205 yard 4-Iron and some punch shots with the Starter 3-Wood, and they were both out-distancing the Starter Hybrid. My 190 yard 5-Iron was pretty close to the Starter Hybrid. That 200 yard 3-Iron is one of the things I really like about that Ben Hogan set.  Then add a nice 3-Wood, and he should be in good shape for a while.

Thanks for your few suggestions. I could get another 60ft wedge for the time being as I might wait a bit before getting irons. However, I am now a bit confused on the types of wedges, as well as what PW is. Is there a post before explaining all the types of wedges? Might try partial power on the current one first before deciding if I should get a short wedge.
