When is WGT going to come up with a handicap system?

I just finished playing in the rookie division of the latest nine hole showdown qualification round.  As I now watch the leaderboard and watch my standing continue to drop, I am wondering why there are Champion-level players leading after shooting 7,8,9, and 10 under over 9 holes!  Why does WGT allow this and why have they not come up with a handicap system where you are forced to play at certain levels based on established criteria, whatever that is?

I am at the point where I am avoiding any money tournaments because of the vultures out there playing way under there level!  I started out playing free tournaments(bracket rounds) and did pretty well and have now move up to the 10 and 50 credit cost games but still run into ringers playing down.  I guess these are the types that like to beat up children and old ladies in order to make themselves feel better.

Not sure how WGT has lasted as long as it has given their poor management.

I am in the same tournament and the leader has an average score of 48. That is absurd. Achieving an average of 48 on a par 72 course means the person is only hitting birdies and eagles. When a tournament is presented, they need to limit the players to a ranges such as; Averages of 90 or more, 70-90 and under 70. It is disheartening to know when you enter a tournament and learn there is no way you will ever win a credit or coins or whatever the offerings are for that tournament.

There are reams of threads here on this topic. Don't hold your breath for immediate change.

You're still a relative beginner (6 months) and already at the legend level. You've dug a bit of hole for yourself by moving up quickly. You're game will improve with time and then you'll compete at or above your tier. Are you suggesting anyone above Legend should not be allowed in Rookie or just Champs excluded?

The tee boxes are setup per tier level in Rookie. That handicaps the better players by forcing them to play longer holes. If WGT gave lesser skilled players easy ways to win, the game would be filled with lesser skilled players.. aka sandbaggers. No one wants that.

There are 3 Showdown entry choices 10,100, or 1000 credits. Play is based on how much the player cares to wager and not how much skill they possess. There are zero restrictions for anyone wanting to play any level.

The game is about 15 years old and is free to play. Is the game perfect, heck no, but until something better comes around...

"Poor management" could also mean they're underpaid.

I've just seen too many of these threads. The OP is a Legend and plays in Rookie with the Hacks, Amateurs, etc does that mean he's one of "the types that like to beat up children and old ladies in order to make themselves feel better"

Until recently I, as a Tour Champion, played in Rookie and I only stopped as I hate these balls you get there.

There are three choices of what to play and they cost different amounts, unfortunately wgt called them Rookie, Veteran and seriously 1,000c?  This gives the impression to some there's some sort of tiering which is wrong.  There is no reason to suppose that higher tiered players can afford to, or want to, spend 100c or 1,000c on a competition they know they're very unlikely to win any more than lower tier players would want to. There are many tiered competitions starting every day, week and month.

In Rookie everyone plays off their own tees which is meant to give some fairness, it's not the case in the other two showdowns.

As to high levels being these bullies; my last few promotions (I think to TL, Champ and TC) were all me being grandfathered there.

The way it has worked is if you've been here long enough you'll be at the top tier and the occasional good round will see your average drop while average or bad rounds are ignored.  A new tier is introduced and everyone under a certain average and saturated is put into it.  Then new criteria are applied to that tier, instead of needing an average of 55 over 200 rounds you need it over 1,000 rounds or whatever.  It's been five years since there was a new competitive tier so many have reached the top one since then and they've done it the hard way (or at least achieved the low average over more rounds).  There are an awful lot of Tour Champions these days and the difference in skill will be as great, if not greater than, at any other tier. The new ones are likely to be better than some of the grandfathered ones, at coin games especially.

Generally tournaments are tiered or tierless meaning I have to play against the likes of Fmagnets  and JSmithers this is the only one I can think of that's not.  There are also the coin room specialists and they have been playing this way, with apparel, a lot longer than I have and they are better at it.

So you want anyone at a higher tier than you (although you're fine playing with lower tiers) to spend more money to have less chance of winning and if we don't then we're "the types that like to beat up children and old ladies in order to make ourselves feel better"  Lol, I'd be tempted to go back to playing Rookie if the balls you got there had more distance than spin.

While you are playing at Rookie I feel I should warn you a lot of the children and old ladies currently at low levels on this site were different in previous incarnations ;-)

    Very well said, Alan.

    @OP

WGT already has a "competition", where the lack of skill doesn't impede your ability to win. It's called the clash... 😉

To some extent, this is true.  But a less-skilled player, regardless of what Tier they are, would be ill-advised to play Veteran or Expert.

As an example:  A Tour Legend (who's L136 and has been playing since 2010) posted in Discord today that he was in 1st Place in Rookie with a -13.  That same score in the Veteran group that I'm playing in would currently put him in 36-45th place, with about a day left to play.

So I can see where some higher-tiered players like him (or DodgyPutter for that matter) would want to play in Rookie.  It's much easier to win decent prizes there.  And, like you said, there's nothing to prohibit it.

Sorry, I correctly mentioned there were zero restrictions, but only inferred common sense.  ;)

Coincidently, I'm also playing Veteran this week and am another guy at -13. Lipped out 4 of last 6 holes.

In Rookie you play from your own tees, in Veteran you play from Master tees so the scores aren't directly comparable. The veteran Showdown is often set up to encourage crazy scores.   This time there are eight par fives (lol, only five par 4's) from Master tees with apparel.  I actually do prefer playing from my usual tees, I'll not score as well but at least you don't need -24 to win and may get away with a mistake and some bad winds.

That's not to say it's not true that it's easier to finish "in the money" in Rookie just it's not that simple and he'd certainly be above 36th with the same conditions.

Thanks, Dodgy.  Did not know that.  This is my first (and probably last) time playing the Showdown.

Sounds like just more goofiness with the Showdowns in general - in addition to the Bogey Glitch and the Forfeit Glitch (where you have to replay 3 holes sometimes if your opponent forfeits).
