Irons - G10 Master v. Rapture v2 Pro?

I saw some other posts on this in the forum, but I'm curious if anyone has a recommendation on which iron set is better for a master-tier player, based on the following:

1) I like playing with the G10s and the GI-D ball; but the GI-D balls are 44 credits a pack, and I'm wondering if the calculus of continuing to use the GI-D's with the G10s is better, or should I try the Raptures and get the considerably cheaper B-XD ball (same distance, more durability, doesn't slow the meter)? I know, it's cheap, but I kind of think the price of balls is disproportionate to the rest of the equipment, given that you can lose and wear them out. At 10 credits a pop, I don't mind, but getting close to 50 credits is a lot for 3 balls.

2) Will getting the Raptures require me to completely reconfigure my gaps at both ends? Currently, I have the G10s and the TM 235yd 3wd. The Raptures would take me down to a max 3I of 200yd, so I would consider a hybrid between 200 and 235 (probably something in the 215-220 range).

However, that means I have to give up one of my wedges, which currently span 60, 77, and 98 yards. The Rapture PW goes down to 110, so I might be okay using wedges at 60 and 90 yards. Anyone have a Rapture set-up, and are the gaps a problem, or what wedges do you use?

3) Has anyone else considered switching to slow the meter? Happy about it? Regrets? Switched back?

i've never played the G10s, so I'll defer to those that have played both...I'll say this: having played you twice in match play Cyl, to continue to play at your level, you need to hit a spin ball with the rapture pro clubs... the rapture pros with the XD ball is not something i would recommend.

I know your game..you could pay for balls in ready-go tourneys...is your state of residence excluding you from doing so ?

Thanks Mo - appreciate the recommendation. I am playing in the ready-gos - I've already made about 1300 credits that way - so that is certainly an option. My sense is that as we go along, it will be harder and harder to consistently place top-5 in the ready-gos. I won 2 in the first week, and have been basically in the 2-10 range since.

I'll consider using the spin ball with the Rapture pros if I get them. Any problem with the gaps at the top (200+) or bottom (110-) in your club set?

I have played the Raptures, TM's and now have the g10's. The main problem that I had with the raptures was having different swing speeds for different clubs.

Yes spin balls with the Raptures is a more advantageous route than distance balls.

the 215 2H hybrid is a nice club with good trajectory..but i leave it in the trunk for Kiawah...so;

BPB : 2H, 54W (85 yards), LW (50 yards)

Kiawah : 54W (85 yards), SW (70 yards), LW (50 yards)

only BPB13 can force me to be careful about placing for 3rd (65 yards out would be awful)...so i like to keep the 2H handy....lets be honest, other than the 2 par 5's 3rd shot, if you need a specialty wedge at BPB you did something else wrong playing the hole....good examples where the 2H is handy is #3 w/ head wind...2nd shot #10 with head wind...2nd shot #12 with a head wind...you get the idea.

Kiawah never calls for a 215 club...3wd at 230 then 3i at 200 is fine, and the extra wedge can keep me out of no mans land....

90 yards is a no-no with my bag..i might survive 95 using a punched wedge, but i do try to avoid 88-99 on both courses (give or take allowing for diff winds)

My set-up is much like molideha's except wedge wise ... i carry the hybrid and 2 wedges all over ... 90 and a 65 wedge ... with the GI-SD balls and punch options plus varying the amount of backspin i use i'm able to cover distances down to very short yardage ... my 90 can topspin at least 93 or as high as 98 with the wind ... punch 74 ... 65 overspins at about the same rate... punch 53 ... flop 32 for the 90 , 21 for the 65 ... that gets me to short distances plus i've still the pitch and chip options ... 15 yard gap between 3 wood and hybrid and between hybrid and 3i ... the g-10's do have a slightly higher spin rate though and an extra 10 yds an iron ... right now i'm happy with my set-up ...

Thanks everyone for the feedback. If I can summarize what I've heard in general:

1) If you use the Raptures, you should use the extra Spin balls.

2) "Gap" coverage at both ends of the spectrum can be combated by either 2 wedges/hybrid or just 3 wedges.

Ultimately, I'm coming to the conclusion that there's probably no meaningful difference between the G10 set-up and the Rapture Set-Up - the only difference is that with the Raptures, you should play the spin balls while the G10s have a higher spin rate but probably require a ball that slows the meter. In either instance, I don't think the results will significantly affect the price of the balls I buy to use in tournaments, because the pricing structure for either variation is largely the same.

I very much appreciate the discussion. If I have some extra winnings, I might try the Rapture set just to see how they play. But I think players on the site are either "Rapture" or "G10" people and I'm curious to play a course with the other set, given that there are only 36 holes to play repeatedly :)
