176 to flag + 19 ft elevation. According to what i have read on this forum it should be 182 before wind.

because 19ft at 1yard per 3 feet = 6 but to get to the hole we need more.

Can someone helped me to understand the way to calculate this type of hole.

    Thank You,

    hi

that sounds right but thats just assumption. hit that shot 10 times. note results and then analyze to see. hole clubs fly higher, some balls have more spin, so all mixed up, it will never play exact yardage every time. just hit consistent spin and make adjustments every time you are there.

Something you need to be aware of on that elevation change-it happens all at the end of the shot where the arc of the shot is ending. Your typical carry with roll to get the club yardage is seriously affected here because the ground, in effect, rises up to meet the shot and you get less carry than normal.

Taking a higher club and choking the swing is one way to deal with it. Using top spin and plowing through the rough landing is another. The key is knowing how to offset that quick elevation change at the end.

Some of the distances are just plain wrong. You only find these by trial and error and taking notes.

That 182 is ALL CARRY, meaning you have to land right around that distance.... which means you need a full shot with, say, a club with a 190 yard rating. The given numbers on clubs are for total distance, which includes roll (which increases as a percentage of total distance from PW-3i).

The distances may be "wrong", as Piz says, or they may be "juiced" to make the hole play shorter or longer than it looks ...

Thank you. I understand now 182 being the carry or landing distance. I need a bigger club to land at least 182.

All the formula/tricks/tips you can find on this forum are helpful but you need to fine tune all that by practicing each holes.

For example hole 16 Bethpage. There is not elevation but if I shot the distance indicated I often come short by 4-5 yds (sometime much more if I don't ding because I play full baskspin).

Hole 15 bethpage, pin behing the bunker. It's known that you need to shot left to the pin and stronger than usual to make the ball pass the flag and roling back to the pin.

Etc. Most of the holes are "regular" holes where "standard" rules applies. But there are a significant number of holes where you need to adapt your shot for various reasons.

    Regards

I am taking note of that. I have tried bethpage 16 and came shorter.

     Thank You,
