I´ve been playing for quite a while and I love this game. However, I get a little pissed at the inconsistent distances and speed on putts. If I am playing on a green that says "slow green" and I compensate by adding a little speed, I get annoyed when a 15 foot putt sails past about 15 feet when I know ABSOLUTELY for sure that the speed I used was near perfect. I see this type of thing throughout the game. It detracts from the fun a little. If I hit a drive perfectly on the line and it suddenly starts rolling uphill 20 feet into the deep rough, again, a perfect shot, I get annoyed. What gives? I have been playing long enough to know how to set up shots. Just curious if anyone else sees this or if I really just suck at thsi. Thanks guys. Great game.

Hello Rowdee. Sounds like you need a putting lesson. Add me as friend and send me an invite when you see me on. I guarantee you'll be putting like a master in no time at all.

Is this invitation open ended?  My putting is hopeless.   I got to the pro level basically on improved driving and iron play.   I end up with shorter putts on average than before and I still don't make them.  I would love a in-game coach.

A couple of things to make sure of when you are putting:

    1. Make sure the proper scale (the one you want to use) is selected.  Oftentimes when something like this happens to me, I either didn't double check the default selection, or I accidentally rolled my mouse wheel a bit in the process of setting up the shot... I have a mouse with a wheel that does not 'click' when rolled and can get quite annoying because it will change the scale (or club) and I won't notice it.
    2. Check your lie when you are anywhere near the edge of the green!  Usually when you are on the fringe the default selection is one higher than the normal scale required for the distance (even if you don't need it).  If you don't notice, you will go rocketing past the hole.... been there, done that.... have the shirt to prove it...
    3. And one more thing... this is required reading if you haven't already:  Putting Tip: Distance Control

    See my post here:    http://www.wgt.com/forums/t/8223.aspx

Lately there have been some deviations and even though I didnt want to believe it, it seems the starter clubs have them built right in (more so than any other clubs anyway {worst precision} ) on top of the game having some as well (I got a slight upgrade and deviations seem much better already {not gone} however only had them 3 days and maybe game improved not sure)

So for anyone with starter clubs, its a double whammy.

Hello Jay. I read your post and decided to play BPB back nine with all standard issue WGT starter gear. And shot +4. Not too bad from the Master Tees.(For me)...lol. I have witnessed a pro shoot level par on BPB (or +1) for 9 holes, with all starter gear. This I have seen only a very few times. And I was envious of the talent required to achieve this feat. The supreme challenge for Masters I think would be to shoot Even or better with all starter gear from the Master Tees. I have no doubt that the Super masters could come in at -3, -5 on 9 holes. The point being that a real professional on the PGA can shoot par with most any clubs. (Even 30 year old clubs) Again the point being that the talent is more to do with low scores than the equipment. The advantage of equipment in real life is that it helps the average players play closer to pro levels. The same is true here in virtual golf. But there is no substitute for experience and knowlege of the game. I would welcome weekly WGT sponsored starter class tiered tournaments where there was no advantage of equipment and everything was equal. Just a thought.

That's a great idea pullinup, I'm ready to do that now. Same clubs, balls and tee boxes. That way everything will be equal and no tier will have any advantage whatsoever.

Sounds stupid but I was left scratching my head quite a few times before realising that the elevation on the green isn't always reported in inches. Haven't noticed any huge deviations in distance since then.
