    {This ruler was initially posted by Oilyrag I believe so, you get the credit for finding this. I just used it in a different way that I think will be helpful for anyone that is having problems determining the distance on their swing meter for putts.}

This is for a custom putter ruler. If you wanted to know how far to pull back on a putt that is 5 feet on a 15 foot putter, 12 feet on a 25 foot putter, etc., this will help.

Go to the link below to get the ruler. It's the middle option. Follow the steps below.

    https://sites.google.com/site/rulerhelp/

Select the middle option, or 'Portable Version'. Once you unzip it, click in the folder and copy the execute file to your desktop for easy access. Now, what I did is explained in the steps below.

Here are the steps for making a custom ruler for putting.

    1) Open the ruler.

    2) Shrink it down. To shrink it down, move cursor over to left edge until you see the arrows. (First, line it up by left click dragging it underneath the swing distance meter so you know how much to shrink it.) Now, after getting the double arrow again on the left side of the meter, left click and hold and shrink it to the right until it is basically the same width as the swing meter.

    3) Change the unit of measurement. After shrinking it to fit, right click on the ruler and select 'Options.' Then select the second option, or 'Calibrate.' This will bring up units of measurement. Select 'Centimeters.'

    4) Adjust the distance between centimeters. Now this will sound weird but follow to finalize. Just below the units of measurement, percentage and pica, there are left and right arrows. (We're still looking at the options screen, not the ruler itself). If you click the Right Arrow, I believe, a few times, you can change the ruler so that it only lists 10 centimeters. (The distance between centimeters is not actual centimeters anymore, but larger, but for the purpose of what we're doing, you only have 10 equal measurements on the ruler at this point) You may have to play with the arrows either right or left, until you only have 10 (TEN) equal measurements on the ruler at this point.

Do you see what I did there on the ruler? I'm sure most of you see what the point of this was. It gives you 10 exactly equal measurements so that when you putt, each "centimeter" numbered measurement is equal to 10% of the total power of the putter you have selected (15,25,30,50,60,100, etc.).

***One caveat to this is that it really only works on putters because when you have other clubs selected, the swing meter gets a bit longer and it'll be off. I think it's because the putter gives you that option to change distances from 25 to 50 etc. and in essence, shortens the meter down. However, this ruler is for putting. And also, this is not cheating. You still have to determine the distance of the putt, whether to aim or not depending on your style, and hit or miss the ding early or late. This just helps you figure out how far back to pull the meter once you figure the distance.

The best part is once you have it sized, it should stay that way even if you close the ruler out. That way you just open up the ruler from your desktop and Oila!, you've got your putter helper. You would just have to move it where you want it underneath your swing meter on putts.

If you are having problems understanding the steps just let me know. I know how sometimes you have to do it yourself to actually have that, "Ah. I see," understanding. The good news is once you're done, it should always be set the way you want it.

    Good luck all. Good shooting.

Lol. You can still market that if you'd like. I hate doing manual. I'm more of an automatic kind of guy that also likes digital.

No, there's not. However, as long as you don't full screen the golf screen and keep it as a pop up, you can put it below the meter and you just have to eye ball where you want to stop.

One of the best parts of the ruler above is that once you have it set, it should stay. Also, the best part is that if you run your mouse over the ruler, there will be a black line that you can move. Use this to figure out where you want to the meter to stop at on the backswing. The way to keep the line where you want it is to move the line by moving your cursor left and right until you get it where you want it and then drag your mouse down off the bottom of the ruler (NO clicking). You may have to play around with it a couple of times to get the feel of leaving the black line where you want it. This will help you stop the meter where you want it, or at least pretty close.

I will say that using this ruler, knowing some sort of formula to figuring power to hit the putt, and also moving up to longer putters so that the the meter doesn't move as far or fast has helped me tremendously on putts. It has shaved probably on average, 3 strokes per 9 at least. I'm currently now on fast greens for pro, but I don't think I would have made it here without figuring distances, having some sort of ruler helper, and also moving the putters up make it easier to stop the meter where I want it.

    Hi, Sunfrye,

Don't want to step on your toes, but I've went thru a few setups of onscreen rulers in the past. The best one I've found, from an earlier forum thread, is 'CThruView', which I currently use. The software allows you to have an image, (your ruler) that is always on top, see thru, scalable, click thru and locked in place.

You can download it here: click the softpedia secure download and save the folder to a convenient location. It should contain 4 or 5 files.

    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/CThruView-Download-170513.html

At this point you will need the image of your ruler. I've included my ruler below. (black bar with white lines). You can take a screen shot of it and use MS Paint to clip it and save it to the folder you previously created.

Stay with me ... once set up, this works great and only takes a few seconds to start before a game.
    The routine I follow is:
    1. double click 'cthruview.jar'. That starts the software.
    2. click the browse button (the one with the 3 dots),  pick the ruler image file you just saved and click 'open image'. It will appear on screen.
    3. set opacity to 20-30% (makes it see thru)
    4. start WGT and maximize the window but don't use fullscreen.
    5. when you are ready to play at the tee box, drag the on-screen ruler on top of the meter bar with one set of lines above (smaller putter scale) and one below (larger driver/iron scale).
    6. The ruler probably won't be the right size (different for each computer), so you'll have to set the scale on the CThruView software so that the lower set of lines match exactly, the length of the meter from 0 to full power. See large arrows below.
    7. Once everything looks good, go back to the software and uncheck 'Movable' and check 'Click-Thru'. you're done, ready to play.
    Notes:
1 - The ruler has two scales, with 5% increments, because the putter meter is actually a little smaller than the driver/ iron one and in a slightly different position. For putts, use the above scale, for all else use the below scale.

2 - So as to not have to scale the ruler each time, I scaled mine using paint and saved one for each computer I use. The displays are all different sizes.

3 - I also attached a screen shot below of my setup with full power to show you how mine looks.
    Example:

    Hope this helps.

I don't mind at all. Very nice. As long as it helps people, I'm all for it. I like your version a bit better in fact. The only downside is that the ruler that I use has a movable line so that I can put it exactly where I want to stop and then eyeball it. It's not exact though because there's about 3/4 of an inch difference between the line and the meter because it's slightly below the golf screen.

I'll check yours out and see which works for me. I'd definitely like it on iron shots.

i dont know.  the scotch tape with felt tip marker lines on it, taped to my puter screen, seems to be working fine for me.

This is all I'm showing....but is worthless without the formulas.
