Hey guys, first post so please take it easy on me.  I've been playing for a long time and have never upgraded anything but the driver to the Tour Pro.  Well tomorrow that changes.  Time to step up to the big time.  Settled on my driver (Taylormade Master) and putter (Ping Redwood) but had some question on the irons and wedges.

I've been doing my research (reading Nivlac's iron guide) and reading the forums and feel like the G10's are the way to go but wanted to ask one question.  I'm not a big believer in spending a lot of money on the balls so if I plan to use the G10's with the starter ball.  Do you think they will still perform as well without the upgraded balls?  Same for the wedges?  Leaning towards the Ping Master Wedges and Ping Pro 64.

Looking for the vets to respond (Tibbets, AvatarLee, Nivlac, etc) but all are welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

rapture v2 if you plan to keep using the free balls

G10+a premium ball if you really want to take your scores as low as possible.

Foley 1362 Ive tryed both the Taylor Master set and the Ping G10 the master set has a lower trajectory than the G10s i also use a GI-sd ball which works very well for me I prefer the pings over the Taylor Mades just try and experement with what works best for you good golfing Pompamike

    Thanks BolloxInBruges and claremoreblue.

Not really interested in the V2's although the swing meters are nice.  Like the distance / precision of the master sets.

Do you have a preference of the balls?  If I do spend the dough to do it, I was thinking the GI-D or GI-S since they are suppose to slow the meter down.  Which should help until I get use to it.  Or do you really feel the 'tour' balls are the way to go?

Congrats on being # 1 on the money list so far!

If you plan on playing with the default ball, you better sharpen up your timing.   The swing meter speed is much faster than what you're used to with the default clubs.  It's challenging and doable, but any kind of meter glitch usually results in disaster.   On the plus side, since the balls are unlimited, you only lose strokes and not credits and strokes.

I echo the sentiments above.  The GI-D and GI-S are both good balls to use in conjunction with the g10 set, as they slow the meter down a little, provide a little extra distance or spin, have good durability, and are relatively inexpensive.  It takes a little while to get used to the new tempo, so be prepared to have a little patience while your internal clock adjusts to it.

foley-Be careful mixing swing speeds. It makes it hard to be consistent on the snap. Your timing will develop regardless of which way you go but I suggest trying to keep the meter speeds the same. I like fast everything because I think the faster speed cuts down on the hiccups. Mario's right, though-lol, miss because of a meterfart and it's a big ouch!

Meters and balls aside, the G10s are the way to go for the higher trajectory and softer landings.  Also I really appreciate the round number increments of the clubs, it makes it much easier to visualize how much power you need on partial shots.  I just find the TM distance numbers to be hard to work with.

Thanks everybody. Bought the G10's today and I love them so far.  The Redwood is taking some getting use to, but I really, REALLY like it.  Hope to see you guys at the top of the leader board soon :)
