The faster greens are probably changing the way the ball behaves - in that faster means they arc less (roll straighter) or something. I may just be a bit slow to relearn the "feel" of how it will behave. Just last night I finally posted something better than -3 ... I got a -7 at St. Andrews! And I was disappointed in a couple shots even.

Hoping that wasn't just one lucky round, and instead that I am finally re-learning how the ball behaves on the faster greens. Guess there is more to it than just accounting for speed and distance. :)

    It's the opposite.

Faster greens break more because you're hitting the ball softer to reach the same distance. Soft putts break more.

There, see!? Probably the reason I haven't gotten my "feel" back for the faster greens - because I was thinking backwards!

    Thanks

Lastly, and most importantly line up your putt from the reverse () camera and switch your swing to chip to read the greens.

I don't understand why the switch to chip in order to check out the breaks.

This is so you can move the putting Grid and look the green over without the distraction of the putting grid. However I do not think that the breaks are accurate to the way the picture looks otherwise there would be no reason to have a putting grid in the first place!

Interesting discussion. I shot a 63 at Kiowa this morning as a tour pro and when I went into the pro shop I saw that my status had changed to Master. I immediately played the front 9 at Kiowa to see if i could tell any difference other than the tee box location.

Although the green speed still showed "very fast" it did indeed seem that putts hit at my normal pace went 1 to 2 feet further than the previous round. Incidentally I was 1 over on the front so obviously practice and adjustments are in order.

I'm using the G20 driver with Nike balls and Raptor irons. Any suggestions regarding iron/wedge upgrades? Although I'm normally around the ping area I probablty don't it it on the screws more than 60 - 70% of the time so a slow meter is preferable.

Interesting topic.I also started missing from 5 ft when I went up to Master. I also found that there was less forgiveness. If I missed the ding even by a tiny bit I missed the putt.

I don't think the green speed has changed as I am still hitting my putts the right length, just missing on the sides.

as a tour pro id score between 3 to 5 under for 9.struggle to score 1 under on any 9 playing same way, also joining a game i hope for no tour masters to join as it kills my putting the tournie greens.but as previous folk have said adjust and practise, it will come good.

    have fun scotty,
