Combine that with the all-the-time-in-the-world backswing and that makes it too easy.

I know it seems that way, Jay. You CAN hold at  the top of the backswing ( for about 88 seconds, tops) ... but that hold comes at a price. Have you ever noticed those blue lines on either side of the perfect line closing in? That's what I always have considered to be my margin of error. Missing the perfect mark by 1/16" has a more disastrous result when that "hit zone" is smaller.

Yeah I always wondered what those were when I first started here, since it isnt mentioned anywhere.

The last update was supposed to "correct" them so that they did actually move closer and make missing more of a penalty BUT they still dont work properly and are inconsistent at best.  Sometimes they move a little, sometimes they close in and sometimes they dont even seem to move at all.

When they start moving on me too much, I let the swing go through as a practice swing and start over and I imagine others do the same.

I'm brand new here and don't have much of a say, but besides the stuttering and freezing, I very much like the meter system that is in use currently.  It provides a real challenge to the put, and makes it seem less like you are playing a "video game" and more like you are really putting.  I think you can make a fairly reasonable guess by imagining the half way point of your putters meter and then dividing from there visually..  and yes, holding the backswing is definitely penalized.  Jeff is correct, the longer you hold it there the smaller the strike zone shrinks on either side of the ding.

I have been playing for more than a year. Just the other day I picked up a tip I did not know. Your putter moves in equal distances throughout your backswing. For instance, on the 30ft meter everytime the putter moves during your backswing equals 6ft. If you have an 18ft putt, the 3rd time the putter moves would equal 18ft. Adjusting for uphill or downhill this is a great way to measure speed/distance. The 60ft meter is a different ratio, but I still pretty much eye those putts. Good luck.

personally i woulnt want marks on the meter. The game would be the same for everyone then. One of the key things in this game is working out the meter yourself thats why you get short/long shots of the hole...
