The worst thing one can do is over read, re-read and do brain science with any putt. Check it out, aim, and bang it.
Best statement on this thread. A couple of months ago, I started hitting 6 foot putts, the same way I hit 2 foot putts...at the hole and with some power. Sure enough I've started to sink them. I never go more than an inch or so outside the hole with a putt of 6 feet or less. There are very few exceptions to this rule (front pin on BPB #15 and left pin on STA #2 come to mind).
However, the way to make the greatest strides in lowering your putting average, is to knock the ball closer to the pin. It's not showing up a whole lot in my stats just yet, but I've really been working on my iron play and getting the ball closer to the pin...and it's paying off. Much easier to putt when you are averaging 8 feet to pin rather than 19 feet to the pin.
I do wish there was a way to sort stats for "Last 30 Days" or something like that, because it wouldn't surprise me if my AVG distance to pin was inside 10 feet, and my average putts per hole were less than 1.4.
