Are better clubs the way to great scores??

  hey all...

  Just wondering if the better clubs/putter will make the dramatic difference in my game to get into the 60's or even the 50's?

  I don't know about 50's or 60's. That takes immense skill and practice I believe. You are like me with an average in the 70's. I will say that buying the clubs is fun. A cool shopping spree that almost seems real. Before the new clubs I was shooting around 4-6 over par. The new clubs have shaved at least 3-4 strokes off my game and now I am shooting generally right at par. A couple of two unders thrown in. The driver, woods, irons, and putter make a noticable difference in your game I think. Not to mention throwing WGT 30 bucks or so helps support this great community.

  Do better clubs make you a better golfer in real life?  No, but with practice you will become better, and practising with better clubs with attributes like more spin, more precision and longer hits will make you better.  Very few, like the now WGTniv, can shoot in the 50's with standard clubs (see his 28 on 9 holes with them not too long ago).  For the rest of us, if you are pro or master tiers you almost always need the distance off the tee to even compete.  If you got the bucks it will make for a better game, as long as you put the time in to learn the game.  Dont be like some others playing 2 rounds and getting all pissed off, or buying something and shooting higher the first round, all the clubs have yardages that you must get to know.

  Hi DM,

  The clubs in themselves will not make a dramatic difference - they will certainly give you added distance for your shots and that is key. They might get you into the high 60's as a Master, with practice - but to get into the 50's, low 60's - now thats gonna take some real practicing, and heaps of it.

  These Masters shooting high 50's, low 60's have put hundreds of practice rounds together, in addition  500 to  700 ranked rounds. Get the picture?

  Get that behind you with some new clubs and you might get close. Meanwhile enjoy the ride, it could be a long one :-)

  Clubs do make a difference-WGT should make an effort to offer realistic clubs i.e. A lot of people prefer a slower swing meter and opt for the Rapture series-but you can't get a Master Tier Driver with the Rapture series- In reality Ping does not make a 9.5 Rapture-they make a 9.0, 10.5 etc So why can't Masters get a Driver with a slower meter-it's enough that you have to adjust to different tees and different approach shots-it's pure frustration you have change your whole game approach, like playing out of the rough 90% of the time--WGT already has enough meter problems-haning varible speeds, stuttering, accelerating etc. A 9.0 Rapture with 275 avg yards would sell like 50 cents coffee at Starbucks-Hey WGT marketing dept. wake up and smell the coffee

  Changing your game approach is key.  It does develop your course management skills. It also provides incentive in understanding what shots one can make in any given situation. As someone has alluded to, one does not learn this game overnight without putting in the practice time.

  This game is a natural progression as you move through the ranks.  The skill level changes as well as the challenges one faces.  Don't be in a rush to get to the master tier.  There is allot to learn.

  For example I have had three drivers, 3 different Iron sets,  2 different sets of wedges.  Each time I made changes I had to spend the time to learn the impact on my game. 

  Secondly, ball type does play an important role.  The impact on your game will be significant.  Its like comparing a Volkswagen Beetle to a Corvette.

  I still consider myself a newb...having only started playing WGT again recently...so I'm not the best source for advice in this virtual world.

  But, the points made by Infinito are spot on.  Having just been graduated to the Master teir (before I was ready IMO, but who is, right?), one of the first things I noticed that helped me was a different course management strategy.  At the Pro level it was all about banging drives and going for every green...not the case now, or at least until I get accustomed to the game change and new clubs.

  It's a new set of challenges that has refreshed the game for me.  I'm sure I'll experiment with other clubs until I find my ideal fit...but look forward to the journey.

  Back on topic...yes, in my opinion clubs do make a world of difference.
