I'm beginning to wonder whether WGT is tampering with my game or whether the new i(s) balls are just simply awkward.
For example...
STA
#1 93 yards out. Typical adjustment I made with the legend balls (same
distance rating as my Callaway i(s)) was 5-6 yards. 9 wind in my
face... that's another 4.5 yards.) Therefore, I would've normally hit
the ball 102.5-103.5 yards. Instead, I hit it the full 105 yards... 2 yards
extra because I came up short last time (again, inexplicably) and to
account for the extra backspin. Result? 5 yards short... and no, it
didn't land in the correct spot and then roll back 5-6 yards. It didn't
even come close to carrying the distance.
Just took a shot on BPB#9... I was 175 yards out, with the hole 7
ft above me. Normally I hit a shot from the area I was in at +8
yards. I also had 8 wind at my back, so that's a -4 adjustment. I
should've hit the shot with 179 yards of power, but instead I went with a
full 175 yards, aiming left to try to make sure I didn't go into the part of the bunker protecting the pin. I expected to come up a little short, but only by a few... 170 +\- 3 yards depending on the bounce, just barely making it on to the green. How far did it go? It didn't make it anywhere close to 170 yards. It went
158 yards.
Across the board, I've had to routinely increase the distance that I hit
the i(s) in order to get my shots pin-high. It's not because it rolls
less -- I would expect that -- but because it carries less... unless
you're talking about on a drive... then it seems to carry tons. It seems completely inconsistent.
How
does a ball that can nearly carry the bunker on the BPB#9 drive without any help
from a tailwind (something that the legend ball needed ~15 tailwind to
accomplish) not carry anywhere near as far as the legend ball when it
comes to irons?
