I'd be lying if I said I completely understood the whole "the scores
are too low" argument, especially in the context you set forth. You
claim the person shooting 52 is going to win every tournament if they
play like that, and in turn, you are making the unspoken assumption that the
field would be more "level" if it were harder to shoot that low. Here is
the major flaw in that assumption:
If you make it so hard that the people shooting 52, shoot say, a 69 on a regular basis, those
that are struggling to shoot mid/high 60s now won't even be breaking 80
on a regular basis. And, I'd be willing to bet my mortgage that someone struggling to break 80 (other than a beginner), will not be hanging around long. Nothing WGT does, as far as gameplay goes, will
"level" the playing field. The better players will still be the better
players, regardless. Now, if you'd rather see the winner shoot a 67 with
scores ranging all the way to 90, well, then that's a totally separate
argument in itself.
