I totally agree with you. I asked before to have an option to disable chat either before the match or any time during the match. This was in response to a forum that dealt with inappropriate behavior. But I agree that when you are involved in a match it can be very distracting to keep reaching for the keyboard to respond. It takes a lot more time to complete a match if there is a comment after every shot that requires a polite response. I do enjoy the social rounds with many of my friends and want to retain the chat option. I just would like to have the option of a purely social round or not. There can also be an element of gamesmanship in this chat function. This option would eliminate it. Look at it this way- Do you play real golf with people that talk during your backswing, or on your downswing, or when you address the ball, or when you hit your shot.....Enough said...

how about just a quick note at the beginning of the round...something to the effect of "good luck, i prefer not to chat during play because the orange chat box distracts me.  thanks"

Or, since this is supposed to be a gentleman's game (no offense intended to the ladies), how about not sending your chat notice until AFTER the player hits? Are we not supposed to wait until after that moment to engage in conversation when we play for real? Type your chat while waiting for the player to hit, and you're good to go afterwards.

well. put... Golf is a social game... Many business deals are made on the course and a lot of great convo's.... If your going to be social just wait till the shot is over.... But no conversation?  Do you have a social problem?  If you can't handle communication than maybe you should look into becoming a mime...haha

Its never been a question of proper social behavior, it is a issue of improper

behavior.  In a perfect WGT world , everybody waits until the shot is finished

and is not abusive or disruptive.  This suggestion is intended to address those

situations and retain the ability to have proper social interactions.

    Stellar,

I have helped many people learn this game  through interaction and chat on here & will continue to do so, i would just like the option to turn off chat if i want to, to ask a player from refraining with the chat does not always work, it would be a nice option to have if your playing a person who wont keep his mouth shut.........i don't see how that makes me have a social problem..... more a way of shutting someone up who does have social problems.

No I agree about it being annoying... And a option to shut it off would be ok with me.  I was just saying that there are some people out there that have social problems.  They don't like to interact or don't know how.  Socially awkward is more like it... Just like this mime.. I will leave it up to you to decide weather or not to train to become a mime...
