I have been attempting to understand why the WGT does not allow one to gift Master or Pro level equipment to someone who meets the tier qualification for the gift?

Thanks for any insight you may have....HB3

Couple reasons that I know of, but I'm sure there's more here than I know.  We didn't want folks accidentally gifting merchandise to players who can't use it.  (i.e. A master gifts a master driver to a Pro who might not ever make Master Tier.)  Rectifying those errors would be troublesome and time-consuming at the moment.  Secondly, we're concerned about how this feature may be abused.

We plan to leave the gifting restrictions in place for the time being until we can resolve how to deal with both issues successfully.  And as I said, I''m not privvy to everything so there may be more issues that I am unaware of.

    Hope that helps. =)

Seems as if the first reason you give has an easy fix...that is, don't allow the gift to be completed if the recipient is not eligible; e.g., one would not be able to gift master tier equipment to a non-master, just as a non-master can't purchase master level equipment for himself.

As to the second reason given...I don't understand how it might be abused if the system does not allow for gifts to be received by someone who is not eligible or who already owns the intended gifted equipment.

Any further information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.  Being able to gift tier appropriate equipment to friends and family members would certainly seem to be a win-win for all....

I agree with you on the first point, Harve .. I can't see that it's very hard to limit who could be gifted which equipment.

And I'll take a stab at the second point ... I'm sure that the abuse they are looking to avoid refers to duplicate accounts. Assume that I am master with incredible skill ( that's a stretch, believe me) and sitting on a pile of credits. It's incredibly easy to set up a couple extra accounts..so I do just that, and gift those accounts the best equipment available until I get them to the Master tier as well. On one hand, that's not such a big deal ... but when it come to credit matches and Ready-Go tournaments, it's HUGE. As it stands right now, I can only win credits for just myself, but let me add 2 or 3 more entries and Jeff1, Jeff2, and Jeff3 will cash out for 3 spots out of the 30 or so.

Or.. sandbag  those 2 extra accounts , keeping a 70ish average and only play them in Matchplay Challenges for credits - not all that scary to a cautious pro/amateur, making them much more likely to agree to a wager.

Both of these scenario's DO exist ( without the gifting option)..  One name that's regularly in the Community Spotlight comes to mind. Imagine how much more that could/would happen if any equipment could be gifted.

Speaking for myself, I don't see the point of doing either, especially when you consider the fact that as of now, credits have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn.

Jeff...Understand the points you make....I think that it is, however, next to incredible that we have a situation where we are so concerned about the few cheaters and determine to (1) punish those who would gain joy from giving, to (2) punish the  friends or family members who would receive the gifts, and to (3) punish the WGT through the loss of revenue.

What we have here is a win-win-win situation for the "good guys" that is being lost because of attention to the "rule breakers", rather than to those who play by the rules!   For me such decision is similar to forgoing giving birthday gifts because of some fear the gifts may be stolen before or after they are delivered.

If someone is a master sitting on a pile of credits, they could just gift a bunch of hack and amateur equipment to a second account, then sell them for credits.  They would be losing a lot of credits, considering they only give like 25% for sale, but if they have the credits to do it.....why not?  Eventually that second account would make up for it playing matchplay and RG's.

My point is, if this scam is being done, it can still be done, it just costs a little more.  So why not just allow the gifting of pro and master equipment?  Like hbthree said, it's a win-win for all.

hence the same reason you cant simply gift credits to someone

sure it would allow the person to buy what they want...regardless of what tier they are.

But there will always be the scammer out there doing his dirty deed.

    Cheers

I'm not a programmer but I can't see how it can be hard to prevent you gifting gear to someone who hasn't reached the level to use it. When you buy yourself something the game checks your level, surely it can see what level the person being gifted is too?
