    Hi there tiffer67,

I can sympathise with your frustration of this game. Though the game may give you a given yardage, the actual yardage is given in the stats. You see this most times on the putting green. You take a long putt and it says you are 6 inches short of the cup and on the next shot you’re told its 8 inches.

As for the drive shot, the ball has to finish up on cut grass, be it fairway or the apron around the green. Anything not on cut grass will not count.

Sorry, that’s the rules of golf.

I look forward to adding your name to our list of members soon.

    John

I wouldn't count on it silky, 7,760 ranked rounds have failed to deliver a successful and legitimate 400 yards + drive yet, today's is the 3rd drive I have had measured between 399 and 400 yards. I am sure I heard laughter coming from my monitor when the ball stopped rolling on the latest close but no cigar effort :)

I probably had 5 or 6 that were 399 or rolled 3 feet too far into the rough before I got mine, it's just one of those things.

Hi John,                                                                                                                                                            I appreciate your reply to my somewhat bragging post of an actual 400 yd. drive, I think I need to qualify it because I'm not a very good golfer. Conditions were optimal for a lengthy drive.  First off I live in Colorado, where the ball flies further in the thin air, next it was from elevated tee box, also it was a very windy day with the wind directly from behind on this hole, plus it was on a mild January day but the fairways were like concrete from the winter, and lastly my swing was decent that day. I'm pretty sure my ball landed in the rough. A player in the group behind me almost drove the green-445 yd. par 4. Worst of all, I cheated on the hole- I saw my tee shot land and take a big bounce at the 150yd. marker from the green, I looked around for a few minutes and couldn't  find my ball not realizing it had rolled a100 yds. further, so I dropped a ball at the 150yd. marker without going back to the tee box- another infraction, after playing that ball I found my original ball on my way up to the green and then played it, I was playing alone so I figured that I was only cheating myself. Mostly I wanted to say I learned something from your forum discussion- I had a tee shot go 400 yds. on wgt and wondered why it wasn't in my stats, I now know that it was because landed in the rough. Thanks for the education John                                                                                             Greg

Had a similar thing happen a few years back to a friend of mine.

We were playing a dogleg right par four, about 445 yards but from tee to green in a direct line probably 400.  My playing partner hit his drive down the cart path which was on the inside of the dogleg with small trees between the fairway and cart path.

From the tee you couldn't see the ball after it cleared the trees, however we got to the fairway where we expected to see the ball and couldn't find it anywhere.  Sent him back to the tee to hit again.  After we have all hit our second shots we approached the slightly elevated green only to see 5 balls on the green.  Upon inspection, we found my partners original ball, complete with several scuff marks lying about 20 feet from the pin.

My guess was that it bounced at least 3 times on the cart path and then went between a couple of the trees on it's way to the green.  Being good sports, we allowed him to play his original ball even though it was declared lost.  He promptly 3 putted and we lost the hole to a birdie.
