How do I put a player on my friends list?

On a player's profile page there is a button
in the upper right hand corner to send an invitation to be a friend. The other player receives an invitation and if they accept they are added to your friends list.

The player will not go on your friends list until they accept your friends list invite.
I (personally) don't approve anyone until I play them a couple times
