I notice a lot of people asking the same question about averages, and why the go down when they "shouldn't" and why they don't go up...

So I moved this from another post. I made it as easy to read as I could. Any questions you have, feel free to ask.

Once you reach a certain number of rounds, if you average is below the benchmark set my WGT, then you will move up tiers. if NOT, then this will happen

Every round will NOT be added to your overall average.... Only the best

so in example, as a tour master, (you need 50 ranked rounds under 61 avg) you have 10 scores of 30, 10 scores of 29, 10 scores of 31, 26 rounds of 32, 3 rounds of 35, and 1 round of 37... it would look like this...

    29 x 2 (converted to 18 hole scores) is 58

    so... 58 x 10 = 580

    30x 3 = 60 x 10 = 600

    31 x 2 = 62 x 10 = 620

    32 x 2 = 64 x 16 = 1024

    35 x 2 = 70 x 3 = 210

    37 x 2 = 74

add all the totals together and divide by 50

    580 +  600  + 620 + 1024 + 210 + 74 = 3108 / 50 = 62.16

so your average at that point is 62.16

lets say you shoot 32, which =s 64. not below your average, but you have to remove the highest score and put the new one in.

so the NEW totals look like this

    580 +  600  + 620 + 1024 + 210 + 74 = 3108 + 64 = 3,172 - 74 = 3,098 / 50 = 61.96

So even though you didn't shoot under your average, it still went down...

In conclusion, the minimum number of ranked rounds to reach a new tier is also the maximum amount of rounds used to calculate you average...

Note: The change will be more drastic if you have more high scores than low scores...

    Hope this helps...

Good explanation.  The Legend avg is far more than best 50 btw.

Legend avg is calculated over the best 400 rounds....A really pointless avg by the way (well not totally). Administrating all the rounds you play as soon as you make legend (or any other tier) gives you a better idea of current level of play; i.e. by calculating your moving avg. in strokes, distance to pin and puts per hole.

Anyone interested in the Excel file? Gimme a shout..

I used the Tour Master Tier as an example.

I edited and highlighted it to make it easier to notice.
