Limited wil never happen due to lost revenue

Sorry i have to disagree with you on that comment

    Hi...I'm tbe707 and I'm an earthling.

    What planet are you from?

A very well thought out comment.

Did you consult a 3rd grader to come up with that one?

    oh...the irony of it all.

Now that were done jousting let me explain. If qualifying was lets say 3 rounds and there was unlimited practice i see no reason there would be any loss of revenue.

The only problem here is most players aren't disciplined or motivated enough to spend the same time practicing that they would with unlimited tries. Once the 3 tries in a limited version were used the participation would drop off.

Common sense states that making the courses harder to make the scores realistic, makes it harder for everyone so ,therefore, makes no difference whatsoever.

The unlimited qualifying is obviously for revenue but also it gives people hope.

If you know you're capable of shooting the required cut score but you need one of your best rounds to do it, then having the opportunity to try as many times as you like is a bonus.

My best score is 58, but if it wasn't for 2 bad (very well timed I must add) meter shakes it would have, without doubt, been a 56. Normally though, I shoot around 31 and 64, but I know full well that, given a few warm up attempts and my putting's on, I can make it.

I think they should make all equipment available to everyone, but at a cost. In real life anyone can buy the equipment the best players use if they want to. So why can't you have the R11's if you're prepared to pay for them, just because you're only an amateur?

The higher tier you get to, the cheaper they become, or the easier they become to use and when it comes to the tournaments, everyone plays from the same Championship tees.

That way the playing field is level and the lower tiered players can't moan when the better skilled players shoot silly low scores while they duff it round in 80, because they have just played the exact same course with the exact same equipment.

I agree, unless WGT opened the course for regular play before hand, many would spend days/weeks "practicing" on the course prior to trying to qualify.

If it were to happen that way, there probably wouldn't much drop off in play.

I like this idea of opening it up a few weeks ahead of time and then you could have 2 or more single play 18 hole qualifying rounds. This would be much more exciting than what we do now, qualifying now is just plain boring and a grind. I still think the best players would qualify though in any system, I don't see how or why you would change that.

What about a month of practice and then play four 18 hole single rounds during the week of the Open? Low score wins it.

I know it will never happen, it's just a thought.

Wow, see the "tiers and sandbagger" thread.

Wouldn't driving all par 4's and hitting wedges to the par 5's for a second shot from am and pro tees make all the current (well most) tourney's a bit one sided?

I think a month of practice, then some limit of quals for a cut line, then the Open.

Unless say the cut is determined after the 2nd round like it is in real life?
