Been saving up credits so if/when I get to L88 I can get the R11 driver.  but seeing as how it's still a ways off (i'm assuming L88 is like 500,000 points or something outlandish) i figured why not get a new 3W.  i'll be getting it eventually anyway.  I had the old Ping 235yd 3W which I was satisfied with, but the R11 is WORLDS better.  Only rated for 5 more yards of distance, but what really sets it apart is the high trajectory.  shots with the old Ping would get to the green then have a hard time holding it.  it is awesome to smack the R11 and watch the ball sail into the sky...and then keep climbing up and up and up, then fall (sometimes) softly on the green.  obviously there's some greens that are harder to hold than others, but for example the 231 yard par 3 on Congressional (#2) that's 20' uphill.  doesn't matter what kind of wind there is, full backspin and get the distance right, it'll stick on the green.

great club if there are other members out there wondering about pulling the trigger.  i didn't think there would be much difference between that and my ping...boy was i wrong!

Pillsy, the g 20 lvl 83 driver is as good or better than the rll, IMHO. I have both and the g20 goes within a few yards of the rll and the g20 is in the fairway almost every time. Give it a try, I think you will like it. Wish I could sell you my rll driver because I dont need it anymore.

The R11 3 wood with a tail wind can travel 320yrds....  something to think about :)

The high level Ping G20 driver and 3-wood are very nice clubs, suitable for playing from the tips...the irons are okay, but not as good as the woods.  G20 woods and level 79 TM Burners make for a good set, the only problem being the difference in meter speeds.

Swapped my R11 3 wood for the Ping G20 (lvl 81/high traj.) and no regrets.

Nominal distance variation, but a much slower meter than the rapid-fire R11.

I swapped my G20 3-wood  for the R11 3 wood and the decision was not even difficult to make.  Like the original poster noted the trajectory and stopping power of the R11 3 wood is much better than the G20.  He mentioned Congressional hole #2 and this is a perfect example.  It is very difficult to stop the G20 3-wood on this green but the R11 will even stop near the pin with a tail wind.  Yes the meter is faster and in an open fairway with no spin the G20 is longer - but for me as a "scoring" club the R11 is hands down the better 3 wood.

Not so fast - the R11 is not appreciably better IME. I hit it (G20) yesterday 247 to pin with left/right 20 mph cross wind into SA #17 to 11 feet (back pin). Birdie. I have played both and both are excellent, but G20 is easier to ding.

You say this as if the difference was measurable. It isn't. R11 woods are sometimes a tad better/longer when you ding them, period. I play against them all the time and the driver/woods do not determine outcome of  match-for the most part. That happens because of what happens around the greens.

The G20's are though much easier to ding and that does have ITS advantages. I have played G20's, R-9 and R-11 driver/3wood. R-9 is long into wind but finicky. G20 is the most forgiving on rare mishits and is plenty long. Each their own.

The G20 is a cannon and is definitely longer than the R11 - we are still talking 3 woods here.  I also made some great shots with the G20 3-wood.  However, into an elevated green the difference is definitely noticeable because in that situation the stopping power of the higher trajectory R11 becomes evident.

As far as drivers go - the G20 is probably my favorite because of the ease with which you can hit the "ding".  The R9 is my go-to driver on St Andrews because of the winds and the added roll that it provides.  The R11 I rented during the free rental weekend and found it difficult to work with for some reason.  I'm sure I will try it again someday but for now I am happy with the other two.
