A bit like shot shaping which is always 0.5 regardless of club, ball durability is bit silly as no ball has more than 2.5 durability, meaning dots 3-5 is completely redundant.

Shouldn't the most durable ball have 5 dots? It would be better imo if they scaled it differently so for example 1 dot would mean 1 full round of average usage before it dies.

Currently most 2.5 durability ball durability balls last 3 or 4 full rounds. I know people have done tests to see how long certain balls last, but it's rather random - I want to know how long what I am paying for is going to last.

They could change the dot rating all together and change it to average number of hits. Putter pal would make no sense at all if it had a dot rating regarding how many times you could use it but the ball situation is not that much different.

Everything in the game that expires has a time limit or a very specified use limit... except balls.

See your point...Never done any testing but I wonder if smacking a tree / fescue reduces life to.............Overall though the cost of this game is very reasonable though compared to other forms of entertainment.

Still not a bad point as good transparency still allows for a reasonable return. I think though that on the list of "things to sort" this one is way down there, but as say no harm mentioning!

If they doubled the dots on the balls then they'd double the price too. Back to square one.

I'm afraid Courteney is dead right. That's just the way it is on here.

I Think the point from the OP has been missed.

It's about transparency nothing to do with dot doubling for same price..................Good point OP....just bigger fish to fry for WGT as it stands......

This comes from a former CC member who has done a lot of research on ball durability.         Don't be fooled by the durability dots. The rule-of-thumb is: better balls cost more -- no kidding.

Ball Type Durability Hits 9-hole round
    per ball*
    9-hole round
    per $**
    Reported or
    confirmed by
    WGT GI-S 2-dot 120 5.7 Rd/ball 35 Rd/$
    WGT Tour-SD 1.5-dot 110 5.2 Rd/ball 24 Rd/$ LeonDelBosque
    WGT GI3-S 2-dot 125 6.0 Rd/ball 18 Rd/$ twominusone
    WGT GI3-D 1.5-dot 110 5.2 Rd/ball 16.7 Rd/$ andyson
    WGT Tour GI-SD 1-dot 90 4.3 Rd/ball 11.5 Rd/$
    Srixon Z-STAR 2.5-dot 120 5.7 Rd/ball 9.52 Rd/$ LeonDelBosque
    WGT Legend GI2-SD2 1.5-dot 95 4.5 Rd/ball 8.76 Rd/$ andyson
    Callaway Tour i(s) 2.5-dot 120 5.7 Rd/ball 6.86 Rd/$
    Callaway Tour i(z) 2.5-dot 120 5.7 Rd/ball 5.71 Rd/$

    Nike 20XI-X (L48+) 2.5-dot 120 5.7 Rd/ball 4.29 Rd/$ twominusone
    Nike 20XI-X (L71+) 2.5-dot 120 5.7 Rd/ball 3.81 Rd/$

    * It is calculated based on 21 hits per 9-hole round (par 36 with 67% green-in-regulation).
** This is the number of 9-hole rounds you can play with every dollar (or 100 credits) you spend on the type of balls (base price).

I was talking about the scaling of the durability, not actually changing the ball.

Yes, I agree. I working on trying to fund my gear (especially) balls by ready-go winnings. It was working well at Tour Master until I got Legend. Now as Legend I am starting to get to grips with it - I have won more than it cost me to enter the tournaments but when I factor in the cost of balls I am still a little behind.

I assumed that a dot number corresponds to a fixed number of hits regardless of the ball brand and model. But that is obviously not true.

I just spend 90 minutes wearing out my current favourite, the WGT GI2-D by playing Olympics CTTH. There is no risk of loosing a ball and you don´t get slowed down by having to subtract your puts from the count. After 115 hits the ball was replaced. This is the most durable 1.5 dot ball I found so far.

My other favourite is the Level 1 Callaway HEX Chrome+ slow meter ball. This ball has 2.5 dots durability and is good for 120 hits.
