I still got a long way to reach there since I'm at level 73, but I'm kinda not sure what to buy for my future wedges.

As many have probably done before me, I'm hesitating between Cleveland 588 and TaylorMade ATV series. I checked quite a few numbers of the top players here to sneak a peek what they're using for wedges and it seems to be divided almost exactly half and half really! And by the stat numbers I see from the pro shop, I can't tell which one suits me better. The more I look and try to analyze them, the more confused I get. :(

So I'd better get advices and suggestions of experts and 'foregoers' out there.

Please somebody light up my WGT life from this total chaotic confusion.

This would be a confining situation for me. I am a fond believer in wedges. so much so, that I own and use many combinations of them. I have Max, ATV and Cleve's of the highest levels. They are all tremendous to have and to be able to adjust/change/mix according to the course and game type (stroke - CTTH). It can take a while to accumulate all, but for lower scores I don't believe you can have too many of them.

I have the Cleveland wedges and absolutely love them. But it wasn't love at first use. It took me a while to learn them and how to use them properly (i.e. to their full capability). And I have to admit that I'm still learning.

Right now, what I've been working on most is how to best use spin (i.e. from no spin to full back spin). I rarely, if ever, use full back spin. In any case, I think my point is that whatever wedges you purchase, you really have to put in the time to learn how to use them. But it's time well spent.

Your wedge play can make or break your game (IMO).

I have the Cleveland wedges 60 level 78 and the 64 l.v 80 both stop on a dime don't need to much back spin at all.  also have the ATV 56 l.v 86 goes 100 yds but find it doesn't stop as good as the Clevelands has more roll on it, but i am using the srixon balls if that helps.  PS they do have a fast meter but you get used to it.

I am using the Srixon also and found the same thing. That said, when using the Callys, those stopped REALLY well

I can't comment on the Clevelands but I had the L38/39 ATVs and liked them so I upgraded to the higher ones when I had the opportunity

All this said, whichever you get, you will want to spend some time on the practise with them and use them from fairway, sand, rough and StA or RSG fescue to see want they do for you

    eg. 64d @ 50% power from 20/30% sand goes 11-13yd flight

    Good Luck

Same here, with once exception. I use the MaxSpin64 - and I'll never get rid of it; I'm just in love with that wedge for sand, and anything under 60 yards. I also use the Cleveland 588 - 56 and 60  ... I like the way the Cleveland's stop on a dime and respond to backspin when needed. With those three wedges, anything 102 yards (not accounting for wind) and under I should land within a few feet on approach shots if I hit the ding. The Cleveland's will roll another yard or so with forward spin.

Just like in real golf. When I bought my first 60 degree wedge it did wonders for my scoring.

I used different levels of ATV to good effect, and only very recently replaced them with the highest level Max wedges, which just seem a tad more accurate. But as others have said, learn to use them, and they'll be your best friend on the course.

I briefly thought of the combination of wedges as well. That, however, will cause some problems of consistency since they probably behave differently, won't it?

Your'e absolutely right... especially on the last comment "Your wedge play can make or break your game." That's exactly what's ruining my scores these days. So no matter what you choose, it's all about getting used to it and knowing it from inside out, eh? Thanks for your valuable opinion, Robert.

Really? The difference of spin between them is only by 0.5 and still the ATV rolls considerably more than the Clevelands?! Thanks for the info, Hillise. In that case, no reason for considering the ATV series, I guess...

As far as the meter speed is concerned, I don't have any issues for that as I'm using the MAX Precision Irons and I'm doing fine with them. ;)
